RE: battle of the bands Posted: Fri Jul 15, 2005 4:42 pm i dont know how relevant this is, but we got through the heats, along with the band alyousis or something. and we are quite different in style. they were more light rock/sublime sounding while we are heavier and more dramatic. so quite different yet the judges still chose us. peace, |

80 proof Posted: Sat Jul 16, 2005 5:07 pm well i'm happy to say that 80 proof got through the first heat, and seemd to have impressed the judges. we are a hard rock outfit, along the lines of ac/dc and guns n roses, although one of the judges said, The Cult, and Def Leppard. high n dry era. i'll take that as good,. looking forward to the semi's, but more important the Finals. and then Honk Kong. good luck with your other band. and good luck to all and any other band out there. keat. www.80proof.co.nz |

RE: battle of the bands Posted: Wed Jul 20, 2005 11:45 am Oh well another heat on tonight hopefully its better than last week. And they have an actual sound guy.And actual judges that know a bit about music and not just two chicks that had nothing else to do on the night. |

RE: battle of the bands Posted: Wed Jul 20, 2005 4:57 pm actually the judges that ive seen have been related to the music industry in one way or another. sure they might not be the latest ceo for EMI or whatever, but i know they know what they're talking about. you could say im just pro botb because i am in the semis. but getting to the semis doesnt really mean much, and past bands will show that winning the botb isnt that big a deal. its just a bit of publicity etc its not like the band will be made. |

RE: battle of the bands Posted: Thu Jul 21, 2005 3:38 pm Yeah man the publicity is what i want because we've put on a few gigs so far but have not had very big crowds cos of the midweek dates and people having not heard of us b4.But we did get thru which was a relief cos we had an onto it soundguy.EX- head like a hole drummer which was cool.Am not 2 excited tho cos one of the bands didnt turn up and the other band was just instrumental but pretty good. But ill take it.I think the 2 chik judges are barmaids that work there but im not 2 sure. |

RE: battle of the bands Posted: Tue Jul 26, 2005 3:10 pm well at central aucks, they seem to have gotten outside people to do the judging seriously this year (4 judges with actual judging sheets), so that' a good sign. I'm glad that it's being done properly this year. The sound guy did a sterling job at Kings Arms too. This message was edited by dragonorchid on Tue Jul 26, 2005 3:12 pm. |

RE: battle of the bands Posted: Tue Jul 26, 2005 3:30 pm the night 80 proof di the first heat in chch the judges were made up of a guy from the chch rock shop, some dude from L.A that works for a heavey metal mag and easy rider mag, some dude from holland and another yank with fat cigars. with judgeing sheets and all. but as it's only three bands a night, and not five like last year, it really doesn't seem that much to get through, really you're only having to beat one band, and when one band doesn't show, well you'd have to be pretty crap not to get through yourself. but any win is a good win, and the semi's coming up, time to turn it on, still havn't heard where the new zealand finals are being held? but my sights are on hong kong. |

RE: battle of the bands Posted: Wed Jul 27, 2005 2:48 pm Yeah same as in wellington. One band didnt show in ours. Our drummer tho took abotu half an hour to set up his kit tho.that was pretty stressful 4 me too cos ya get penalised for time wasting too i think. My mates are traveling 2hrs from wanganui to play in the wellie heats next week. And they r hiring a mini van to bring some supporters along.Guess they r trying to go about the Chugganaut why of getting in by buying your way into the finals.they hired 2 busloads to go up 4 the auck final last year didnt they? |
