Hi guys,

I am a young producer about to move to Auckland to build a music studio...just back from living in Japan for three years and brought all the high tech gear I need...all I need now is to find a nice place with like minded people where I can move in a make a business from home while I get established.

Any advise would be great.

Why Auckland? Well, besides the fact that I am also a freestyle dancer and there is no scene here for that, more opportunities are available up there in regards to music production.

Please tell me if you think I am making a bad decision.

no it's not a bad decision.
it's just the same decision that every other fucker is doing, and Chch is losing out.

the music scene is being forgotten in Chch. it's now nothing more than a door mat, Used but not really needed.

Musicians don't have the drive that they should, as the mind set down here is becoming stronger that there is fuck all point to it.

Auckland swallows you up.
you don't become creative artist crating from your soul yet you are another product producing more and more into the ideal that is the Auckland pacific scene.losing your identity in the arts.

anyway have you thought about a mobile studio? any Japanese import school bus would be an easy option to sound proof and wire up into a sound room and control room.

So much anti-Auckland sentiment, but what about this guys original question? Dude, I'm in the same predicament, lots of gear but no place to put it. Doing mobile out of a vehicle is a pain in the an*al opening. Don't make the mistake of thinking you can do it out of your basement or spare room either unless you're prepared to spend a bit of cash to make it look professional. Too many times I've seen people whack up a bit of foam and egg cartons in a room and call it a studio or practice room. Kind of ruins the atmosphere a bit when you know you're in some dudes bedroom.

it's not anti-Auckland sentiment.
it's just plain fact that the growing mind set is that if you want to do it, you have to take your act to Auckland.
which sucks for those that don't want to go to Auckland, or Can't.

my point was.
That Christchurch needs to get off it's arse and become a place that encourages artists and bussiness to do it from here.

also it's a lot to do with promoters for not encouraging act into the southernland of the country.

oh yeah.

there are some great old venus and sound stages around this island, a moblie control room would be a grand treat for musicians to get there first recording recorded.


and the lack of good live recordings done by any body these days would be a great reason alone for a moblie.

It is a very difficult decision. I am not tied to Christchurch as I have only just returned. I am free to live where I would like and I have to look out
for not only my best interests, but for those who need my services more.
I probably couldn't survive down here because of a lack of business. I am
not suited towards bands either which is what chch consists of more so. I
make electronica, hiphop, backing beats, and compositions suitable for startup vocalists such as rappers or rnb singers. Also, I have plans to build aliances with
other electronic producers for vocalists and dancers. I need to be in the midst of the city with a good location.
I am borderline when it comes to having enough clout to invest in some
commercial property. Provided I found a partner willing to aid me in a business proposal I have, I could see my equipment put to good use and
help possibly immerging artists. I feel there is a lack of producers around
throughout the country and nz music is lacking in many genres...there is more than just dnb nz.

As for the mobile studio idea....not a bad idea and probably better than a half hearting bedroom studio, but I would rather take the risk and get some good commercial or industrial property if I could.

Anyway, still doing research... hit me back if you want.
