Well... Not quite.

The Axe Attack is more well known due to its nationwide broadcast, however there are 8 other NZ Metal shows on various radio stations around NZ.

Cacophony has been around longer than The Axe Attack, but is certainly not the longest running metal show in NZ. We play stuff you won't hear on a 'commercial' radio station... including The Rock.

... But of course you already knew this, right?

The Axe Attack started on student radio back in the early to mid eighties i think, when did Cacophony start?

Cacophony started in 1984 when 'Radio U' went FM and changed to RDU.

However there has been a metal [ hard rock back then I 'spose ] show on the University of Canterbury campus radio since 1979.

The Axe Attack was never on student radio and was started in 1986...

I don't want to sound like a _wanker_ but most of the DJ's of Metal shows around NZ get the 'your just copying The Axe Attack' speel from people who don't know that more than one metal show has existed.

Its just that our radio stations weren't bought out by big commercial companies like Paul's was... who wanted coverage to go "national".

The Axe Attack started out on Contact 89 FM before switching to The Rock.
