Music Funding - NZ On Air
Posted: Wed Mar 22, 2006 12:01 pm
Any other bands disturbed by the number of hip hop artists that get music video and recording grants in NZ ?? ..

whats wrong with NZ On Air funding rock bands ? .. they pay taxes too.
is being tangata whenua a pre-requisite for funding ?

Nothing to do with race, is to do with proven success and radio friendlyness. Don't know if you've noticed but most chart shows these days are primarily hip hop acts. Would be a different story if metal or alternative had a bigger following.

Aww come on, "cut" and "paste" are two words! Just saying "cut paste" probably would have gotten that post deleted for incorrect grammar Laughing

I agree man. For example in the U.S Rap and Hip Hop Singles have been the only ones at number one (If you exclude American Idol Winners Songs which cant be counted as music anyway)

I could be incorrect here, but I'm perceiving that the browner artists are better organised / cultured at... going for / trying for funding... with too many non-brown artists staying or wanting to stay underground.

so bands like U2, Pearl Jam, Rolling Stones, and Metallica dont have proven success and radio friendliness ?

your saying that hip hop acts are primarily bigger than bands like U2 ?

i'd like to remind you which band sold out all there tickets to the largest show in NZ in under an hour and a half.

more and more rock/metal/punk/pop punk and bands along those genres are SLOWLY getting more grants, because more people are supporting them now

Sailor it is time the whole pop punk thing died
old Tom can remember it first time round
it is still awful now.
they have always got grants off nz on air
it is wearing thin

The biggest buyer of music
in the world at the moment
is the 45 year old male.
yet that is not reflected in
charts

maybe due to
charts
being more about
airplay and units dropped off in cd stores
than
sales
and also due to record company hype

the biggest acts in the world
have only single figure %es
buying their cds
8% of a country likes you
and you are a superstar.
funding, whomever is always going to be
one eyed.
subjective
catering for a
minority

what pisses off old Tom though
is that so much funding goes to
lameass whiny emo
and lamer
hip hop.

While we're on this topic
the cynic thinks music needs to get back to being
more a meritocracy
if you can barely play an instrument
fuck off back to the garage till you've learnt to play
properly
if your idea of an instrument is
a turntable just fuck off, full stop
you are retarded
and your parents should have drowned you at birth
or sold you to gypsies
The cynic thinks it is about time
musicians were given props for
their years of hard work
so saith the cynic.

you can't really down people cos of the style of music they listen to, dude. I mean i grew up listening to rancid, the ramones, CCR, Def Leppard and most of the bands i listen to now all thrive off that same line. So what if i listen to pop-punk and wanna play it. I reckon all you "critic-wannabes" should just shut the fuck up and let everyone listen to what they wanna listen to

oh no the cynic has upset
the little boy
the little boy is upset
would be a terrible thing
if the little boy
had a temper tantrum
"don't diss me
bad mr cynic
cause my life is so hard
being a indulged little
middle class teenager"

you are
so
embarrassingly
emo.
ever dream of singing whiny songs
while jumping up and down on your
moms roof?

and while old toms at it
is your mom a MILF?
because that is one trend
old tom approves of.

Sailor you were so
upset
cause thats what
whiny emo kids do
be all upset
and whine
about how they're not really upset
"but now you mention it....
blah, blah, blah"
you bore me
at least goths write
poetry
about slitting their own wrists
and stuff

The cynics best friend
wouldn't take
the former mrs cynic
believe me
old Tom offered him a lot of money
to take her
the current miss Cynic
you call her mom
biatch

Metal head
is that a
proposition?
cause the cynic thought
all you southlanders were
into sheep

sorry was away banging your mom
best five minutes of her life
and about twice as long as
your daddy does
apparently
from what she can remember of him
you really shouldn't diss her like
that
junior

the former mrs cynic
was terribly ugly

thats why
the cynic
dumped her
after the lotto win

one night the cynic is in a bar
getting in a fight
with a russian trawler owner
called Ivanov
theres mrs cynic yelling
"go on you fuckers
whoever wins takes me home"
unfortunately the cynic won
though he suspects
Ivanov threw the fight

When you are married
to the former mrs cynic
you have the right to write whiny songs
you're a long way from there
son,
thinking of 'son'
your mom's a tiger in the
bed.
