What Can We Improve?

Now's your chance to tell us what you want (and don't be shy)!

Tell us how we can improve muzic.net.nz. We want to know what YOU want to see.

The site is great, I think it's a very valuable resource, but for some reason you discussion forums seem to lack some momentum. I think some promotion of the site could improve this...

Hi over there,
Webmasters always get a bit "blind" about the work they do...
They are never satisfied ...

I am jokin!
Complimenz 2 U guys, I realy like jer site!

Well theres always something one can do.
Maybe U could translate this site into serveral languages for that everyone, even your guests from overseas, can read it.

I'ld have some more ideas .... just write me an e-mail.

I really really like the website! It's probably the best website supporting New Zealand music around.

As Jane said, I'd like to see more people posting. Promotion could do it? Word of mouth is the best way of promotion I reckon Very Happy

But seriously guys, I reckon your gigs section is far easier to use and looks probably the best (as well as it being up to date with plenty of gigs)!!!! I wouldn't mind seeing like... "todays" gigs or top 5 gigs or the top 5 gigs that have had the most clicks or something displayed on the front page of the website. Most of the time when I come to the website (although it's become a habit and i'd just do it anyway) is to check out the gigs section.

Everyone that is a member of muzic.net.nz can post to the forums. This means they can start new topics, or reply to existing topics.

Forums can also be found at the bottom of every artist page - so you can tell us what you think about NZ music artists. This is an excellent way to show your support towards NZ music, and NZ musicians.

In the future we will be creating more features within the forums, such as enabling html and allowing pictures to be added to posts. We are also looking at the possibility of adding forums to other areas of the site, such as News, so you can give your view on NZ music news. If you have any suggestions as to how we can make these forums better, please let us know!

have a "featuring" thing where every week you get some relatively new up and coming band and maybe interview them or whatever. ive seen this on a few sites.

when you get to your front page, its just like a whole lot of links to places, but maybe consider having a few more pics or a mini calendar of this weeks gigs on the front page or something. like just a little more you can see at first glance.

and make your competitions page easier to access. the only link to it i know of is in the ***what can muzic.net do for you*** thing. tho i havnt looked too hard.

peace,

Maybe sending out the gig listing's a lot more often?
and interviewing more bands?

Just a thought.

I know you can't really control this, but some of the discussions are boring or not really relevant to anything. eg. 'Santa' appeared a few days ago, 'Phoenix film company hiring crew', is this supposed to be a music site? I remember once there was even a discussion about 'Phatgurl' and they said her name contradicts her opinions.. Confused

But anyway, couldn't the organisers think of some decent things to discuss about? The rap vs rock thing was good actually, at the start, but then it got extremely repetitive and boring, then it was a joke. But things along that line where theres a argument for both sides..

I'll answer a few of the latest points below. Keep those suggestions coming!

A few other sites do this, but it's way too open to abuse. That said, we have been thinking about doing something to improve the polls thingy on the right of this page and a combination of this idea and some other things we've thought of might be just the ticket.

We actually do this already using our Newsletter - you should subscribe if you haven't already (you can do this under member options). We have had plans to make this accessible from the web too, but it's just finding the time to do it. It would also require a re-think of the site layout a bit to get it to fit in as well.

I take it you haven't noticed the "Win Free Stuff" banner at the top of the homepage? Obviously it's getting overlooked, so we might need to re-think our promotion of this area of the site.

This links in with the point made above. I don't like clutter, but at the moment the homepage is just that - cluttered. We're re-thinking the design of this and a few other areas to make things easier to access and quicker to find.

Two weeks isn't often enough? Interesting. This is probably something we would need to ask the people who receive the newsletter, along with some other feedback. Expect to see a feedback form coming out in the next month!

We could, but generating discussion is artificial, and I'd rather see these types of conversations spring up themselves, as that way people are encouraged to express themselves more. What I would really like to see is someone contributing some sort of tabloid-format column on a regular basis, where the topic is something of interest in NZ music. Readers would then be encouraged to comment and discuss the contents of this article. However, finding someone to write it in the first place and stick with it is the problem.

Great suggestions everyone - we'll certainly be considering all of them!

re: the competitions page banner: ive seen it but to me that looks like an advert, i.e. banner ad. and i think most people just ignore banner ads now because they are everywhere and never lead to something worthwhile. maybe make it clearer that it is actually a muzic.net giveaway page or something, rather than one of those "shoot the balloon and win $10,000" banner things.

and re: not wanting to get the page too cluttered, i agree totally but at the moment it just looks more like a giant contents page than the main page.
i think its very practical and useful but purely visually or in terms of a first glance it doesnt really catch your attention.

just my two cents, im know nothing about design or media presentation apart from what i like and dislike so dont assume i know what im talking about.

peace,

as far as promoting goes, i reckon you could advertise in some music magazines or something..or even have gigs or something, like the "muzic.net.nz" concert (and do include chch please!) , well...something like that.

All good suggestions! the forums are definitly where things need to change. every topic is something to do with hating hiphop, rap vs rock, etc....

but i think this site is awesome to hear about gigs. doing a good job guys. i think it's the members who are letting this site down.
