http://www.petitiononline.com/lkmpa666/petition.html

Keep our free online instrument tablature free! Don't let Lauren Keiser and the Music Publishers Association take great resources like www.mxtabs.net and www.ultimate-guitar.com away from us! They already took powertabs away!

The thought of banning such sites and jailing their owners for provoiding free resources to us aspiring musicians is just unheard of! Don't let it happen! (Especially since a lot of the times these resources aren't even 100% correct, but we GREATLY appreciate and enjoy them anyway.)

This is to stop Mr. Keiser and the MPA from taking away our free, online tab (and possibly lyric) websites.

ALL THESE PEOPLE WANT TO DO IS MAKE MONEY EVEN OFF THE TINYEST INDUSTRY OF MODERN SHEET MUSIC THEY SEE A THREAT FROM FREE TABS AND WANT TO WIPE IF OFF THE MAP! SO GO SIGN THE PETITION! OR REPOST THIS WITHIN 5minuites or else you will be killed by something...

I signed it, its just stupid trying to get rid of tab sites, as well as spreading music in general, people learning artists songs is free advertising for them...they should be endorsed by the artists themselves, then the big corporations wouldnt try to shut them down.

Legend has it that in 1836 two French composers were sitting in a restaurant, One of the composers notices a string quartet is playing one of his musical scores and decides, cause he isn't seeing a cent from it, not to pay his bill. He gets arrested but finds himself in front of the king of France a few days later (story has it he was friends with the king). The king could see his point that his intellectual property should be protected and rules in the composers favour. Thus musical copyright laws were first enacted (not counting some rules put in place by Queen Anne in England over a century earlier- though they didn't really have any teeth). Copyright laws were originally all about protecting the medium of the time, written music.
Law is the law and to a working band income is income. I'll admit to occasionally looking at tab sites when I've got nothing better to do and sometimes downloading but you guys get that downloading tabs rather than buying them in Guitar World is effectively no different from downloading the music from Kazaa rather than buying the cd. Different type of unit but same laws governing it.
