Most of New Zealand's youth were fortunate enough to have access to MTV UK when it was broadcast on television during the short period between late 1997 and June 7th 1998.TVNZ suddenly disconnected this channel without solid reason for doing so.TVNZ were promptly debunked with a myriad of petitions and a significant outcry from New Zealand's youth.
MTV UK was our way of communicating ideas between the United Kingdom and New Zealand.Not only is MTV sorely missed for this reason,but New Zealand's youth have no free to air music channel,and MTV is the foundation of the music video.TVNZ funded a music show named m2 from 2001-2003,but this was canned recently, leaving us with nothing but 2 pay tv music channels.
MTV UK helped New Zealand youth get in touch with the international community.

The function of this petition is to convince TVNZ to bring MTV UK back to our screens.When you sign this petition,you are agreeing to the premise that the youth of the nation need music and have been treated poorly,and the conclusion that TVNZ must get MTV UK back on air.
We need a resolution - help New Zealand get MTV UK back and back for good!!!

Personally I like the idea of what TV4 plan to do more. Re-broadcasting MTV UK isn't going to put more NZ Music on the air.

Not that I can compare MTV UK to anything - seems TVNZ thought Palmerston North didn't need a music channel back in 1997, and as a result we couldn't get it here. So, I never saw their offering.

I guess that means I won't be signing...

mtv uk was crap!

Tvnz closed max tv down for mtv uk. Then mtv uk was unsuccessful because mtv was crap, so they closed that down too. Then they start m2, which was great, and just like they closed down max, they closed m2 down as well!

I say tvnz should go and fuck themselves and we give tv4 a chance!

Don't encourage tvnz to compete!

Fully agree with Andrew. Where are we going to be able to see (on MTV UK) kiwi bands like my beloved WASH. Someone should start a petition to speed up the TV4 music channel proposal.

I find it weird that more people (at this present time) have voted for tv4 becoming a music channel.

They haven't given us much info on what it's gonna be like. It could be as bad as juice tv.

M2 was perfect in my opinion. What they had seemed to please everyone. If the new tv4 thing was like m2, i'd be happy.

TV4 has been a strong supporter of New Zealand music in the past, and it was the demise of M2 that helped them come to the decision to set it up.

I guess there is no real way to know for sure until October though.
