my ........ story
Posted: Thu May 4, 2006 11:47 am
I've been looking for a job for some time now and well i've had now luck. I've filled out applications, phoned plaes, handed out CVs and still nothing. My mother has told me if i don't find a job before a certain date i have to move back to taupo(where i will find it even harder to find a job) i'm staying with my Aunty, uncle and 2 counsins here in Auckland and my aunty just finished giving me a HUGE fucking lecture, everything she said....if she was to put it in harsh words, it'd come out "you're an embarrassment to you mum, you're useless, blah blah" She has made me taken my piercings out and i hink that's fucken bullshit, making me change for a job. What i don't get is they're forcing me to go out and look for a job everyday when they let their 26 year old son stay home and play world of warcraft ALL DAY EVERYDAY, it's fucken bullshit. Double standards.

But the peircings? what have they got to do with anything?!

I have no problem with people and their accessories, but you do need to remember that when applying for jobs, often the people doing the hiring will be "old-fashioned".

Just remember that your appearance is the first thing that people see when they meet you, so you want to make a good impression. If two applicants are similar on paper, it could well come down to the way they look as to who is going to get the job.

This is especially the case if you're applying for face-to-face, customer service type jobs, we don't want any of the old ladies you'll be serving loosing an eye Razz

Exactly. The reality is this is the world we live in, and there's shit all you can do about it.

EDIT: I should probably add in that I wear jeans and a T-shirt to work every day, and I do IT Consultancy for some pretty large businesses - everyone else in town (in IT) is still running around in shirts and pants!

I took your guilt and placed it into me
And now I kiss it goodbye
Our last dance ended fatally
