Music month sucks!

Dunno about you but I thought NZ music month in wellington has been pretty lame. There hasn't been any sort of advertising on tv so it's been pretty below the radar stuff. Although there have been some pretty sweet live gigs, there always are in welly!
I don't think there has been enough promotion of it, like they should have a band a day kind of thing, profiles on tv and stuff, good advertising for up and comers.
If the organisers used their imagination they could do alot with nz music month, but it seems they've slacked off a bit this year.

I mean shihad opened last year with one of there better gigs i've seen, and this year we get a tattooed bleeders <lame!>

Do we actually NEED a special month for NZ music?

Personally, I don't need an excuse to go out and see good band.

To be honest, I think most artists would prefer to gig, have huge tours, release CDs and promote themselves more when it isn't NZ music month...

For the bands and the actual people who go out there and support NZ music i dont think its any different to any other month.

I think NZ Music month is more of an opportunity for overseas-owned Radio and TV to play NZ bands who are signed to overseas-owned major labels in an attempt to show they support the NZ bands so the government doesnt force them to play a certain amount of NZ music. This is my observation anyway.

It's past its use-by date. That this country has to have a designated
month dedicated to its music makes it look a bit dumb actually.
There's been heaps of hype from NZ music sites, TV shows etc. And,
of course, Hallensteins ...who are selling the tees.

It's a crock

I book shows for a band...... they played a couple of gigs a week for the first 3 weeks. Most of the shows had pretty big turn outs and paid well too.

I am sure the fact that it was NZ Music month has a bit to do with it.....

So it's gotta be a good thing.

I haven't been able to listen to much NZ music this month or any music for that, only time i get to listen to music is when i'm getting ready for work lol and that's all of 10 mins. A few good bands are getting out there during the month of may, let's see....5star fallout, streetwise scarlett, quarter 2 and more just can't think at the moment. I better rush to Hellinsteins and buy me a music month shirt, hey look pretty rad

well I think it actually lower the standards of some bands by labeling them nz music overseas, when nz has some obvious international level talent, and they may be deterred from major record labels because of their label as a nz band.

I refuse to buy a music month shirt all because of the 48 May singer modelling the hoodie in the ad. That guy is so vein!

there's a reason why the new zealand music month t shirts have such a stupid logo, it basically says "shoot me, i listen to nz music"

well i decided i didn't want a nz music month t-shirt because i didnt want to wear the same shirt as everyone else when i go out.... but i got over that years a go and haven't thought about it since
