What is wrong with our government?
Posted: Mon Jun 5, 2006 12:47 pm
Is there anything wrong with our government, if anything?

Is Helen doing a good job?

What could be done better, or be changed?

What do you think of Don Rash, I mean Brash?

what do you mean, 'someone like that'?

does the way she speaks alter the way she runs the country? I don't think so tidsy. You obviously don't have any knowledge of our government so choose to take the 'funny' way out. No, No!

You can't please all of the people all the time, although the fact that Labour have been in power for so long says that the majority of people are okay with the way they do things.

Possibly, but definitely a better job that Don Brash, Winston Peters or His Highness King Brian Tamaki would do.

Fairer taxes. I earn over $50k a year and it took me a few years of hard work to get there, and now that I am there I'm getting shafted.

The guy is a paranoid little freak. I like some of his parties policies but I don't really like him. He's a bit like Hubbard, has some good ideas but comes across as a complete noddy.

No you can't. But you can please most people most of the time, if you listen, work and experiment.

Or does this say that there is a large number of people who wish to continue bludging off the government and feel labour gives them that oppourntunity?

Don Brashs' user pays scheme would not work in a country like New Zealand with such a large number of families being unable to pay for basic medical help. Look at USA for example. With no medical or financial benefits people are pushed onto the streets. Although if they have got themselves into that situation by stupidity then more fool them.

Taxes are getting exceedingly out of hand. A government does not need surplus, it should be giving back to the community. And when I say giving back, I don't mean putting up stupid $21,000 buzzy bees in Wellington when its wings don't even spin around. No, No!

I agree with some on Brashs' policies, but he is a bit of a gimp at times. He is correct in his opinions about something needing to be seriously changed with our benefit system though.
No, No!

With that multi-billion dollar surplus, it makes you wonder if they know something we don't know... oh dear, here comes another conspiracy theory! Laughing

Seriously though, I see these as problem issues:

1) Skilled labour shortage. You've probably heard people whinging about this. Basically, all of our skilled workers are buggering off overseas. Why? Life is so much better in other countries - heck, I've even considered it myself, and I would if it wasn't for family! I've got mates who headed off overseas, working in the same field as I am, and they're four times better off financially.

2) Pussy footing around with "Polictical Correctness" when it comes to dealing with issues such as crime. Lock em up, treat them like the scum they are. Infact political correctness in general is just a pain up the rear.

3) Government spending. Why, oh why, oh why, do they need to spend millions on consultants and advisors, when anyone with half a brain could tell them their ideas aren't going to work!

"Polictical Correctness"

A dirty word where I come from. I think the government has become afraid of what the natives may do or think if they put one footout of step. They want equalness with the rest of New Zealnd? Then they can stop trying to be such individuals. Seperate voting roles, seperate study scholarships, seperate government parties. Bollocks!!! They are just as equal as anyone else in this country. No more special than anyone else.

As for government spending, what the fuck do they spend with that sort of money? Apart from tax payer holidays for 'business development'.

No, No!

I think in some ways, the parents should be held responsible too. I mean, WTF are you doing as a parent if your 14 year old daughter is out roaming the streets at all hours of the night?

Is there any reason why having a curfew would be a bad idea?

That thing with trying to break up telecom's monopoly was a good idea, 20 years late, but still a good idea.

And power companies, why does there have to be a million different power companies and power generators? all it means is they spend money on marketing (which in itself is dumb -oh Genesis electricity is so much better electricity than transpower or whatever) and middle management buying the electricity and then selling it to the public meaning ridiculous power bills for all. I think there should be just one centralised electricity company for all nz owned by the government with no profits.

Oh and legalise herb. mon.

I just did a quick search on Google, to see what I could find in the way of electricity prices in other countries... and the rates we pay compare fairly well.

Unless someone can provide some proof that we are being seriously ripped off?

Telecommunications is a seperate issue - we are definately paying too much there!

Is comparision to what the telecommunications companies are actually paying for the networks, we pay high prices. New Zealanders are getting ripped off when it comes to Broadband.

Bro, this is the case with many services we pay for. Money makes people compete to try and make more than each other, it's just the way the world works. Sad but True.

As for cannabis daniel- I think people seriously need to look at the issue. What is so bad with smoking cannabis in moderation? not much. smoking alot of cannabis alot of the time- yes can be very dangerous. but just like alcohol, it is ok in moderation.
-it doesn't make people aggressive like alcohol does
- you don't often spew off it
-doesn't make you fat

if anything should be illegal, it should be alcohol. But they tried that once in the States and look what Al Capone got up to aye? No, No!

well for a start new zealand power a lot of it is hydro which, once it is built is a fairly cheap source of power i belive. The fact that our power bills have gone up so much since they de centralised it and that they are making enormous profits out of it shows we are being ripped off!
