North Shore Link To Aramoana Movie

In November 1990 when David Gray massacred 13 innocent people in the South Island Town of Aramoana, Auckland band Roadrunner felt the pain.

Roadrunner had only recently formed with two members of the band residing on the North Shore. Bass Player; Axe watched the news reports on this sick crime and furiously wrote out his anger on paper.

Two days later he presented the song Aramoana Dark to the rest of the band and it was played live two weeks later.

In late 2005 Axe and vocalist CF Bedford were in discussions with Aramoana survivor Chiquita Holden with a view to re-recording the song for release in support of a trust being set up in the name of families and victims of violent crime.

Support from other members of the Aramoana community was gathered by Chiquita, at the same time as a movie was commencing pre production in the South Island.

The intended re recording of Aramoana Dark was to be strictly for charity. all funds from any potential sales were to be donated to Chiquita Holdens Trust. Sadly support from NZ On Air and other funding bodies was not offered and those involved in the film , a commercial enterprise, were also less than interested in utilising the song as a kind of cross promotion.

It has never been the bands intention to make money from this song, but it is still hoped that it may one day see official release for the purpose for which it was created nearly 16 years ago.
