Ok I know this has probably been said but Boy Band is the most ridiculous crap i have seen in a long time. The people at the Edge are nuts and im not just saying this cuz im a metal fan im saying it cuz its true. I mean sure i can handle NZ Idol cuz the winners never makesit after a while anyway and piss off and even though Boy Band will be gone soon and fogotten, what does it say for NZ music? Do the Edge think its funny? In my opinion introducing this band has made a mockery of the integrity and intellengence of New Zealand musicians. They not even singing for gods sake! Yeah yeah i know thats the whole point and the punch line, but it ain't funny. And what the hell is wrong with the New Zealand public? How could we have voted this to number 1? Is there a sudden halt to good music out there? Last time i checked there was music a hell of a lot better then this crap, you know musicians who put their heart and soul, years of their life, numourous sacrifices to get into the music industry? Yeah and then their ousted by this complete bull. Whatever artist who was at number two the day Boy Band hit number 1 should be very rightly pissed off. I didn't think it could get any worse until i heard they were playing at the NZ Music Awards, thankfully later i found out its actually pre to the awards but it doesnt make much difference, it just gives Aussies another reason to laugh at us. In closing i say this to the Edge: Boy Band? Bloody hell you could have come up with a better name than the that you morons.

the edge are just trying to be funny but they arent... their ideas on music and what should be on the radio is the reason why radio has such a bad name. but i guess it satisfies the majority of people out there with shallow interests in music and pop culture which is why the edge is so successful. only when people begin to realise that there is something more important to music and musical culture than 5 unattractive guys dancing and destroying a kinks song will radio stations who purely focus on the mainstream bands that are commercially driven cease to exist...

It's Yet Another Crazy Frog Phase (YACFP) - give it time and it will pass and make way for the next pile of crap. Since idol wraps up in a week or so, any guesses as to what it might be?

A few of things to keep in mind:

* A large chuck of what makes up the Top40 charts is stats from radio airplay
* Our Top40 charts are a "Mainstream" chart. You'll only ever see stuff that is enjoyed by the "majority".
* Does it really matter what other people listen to? I listen to what I like to listen to. I don't need a weekly list to tell me what I should be listening to.
* Real musicians make music because it's what they love doing. Selling records is just an added luxury.

I know what you mean when you say'does it matter what people listen to?'I don't care if its pop, country, rock or hip hop etc that floats your boat; just boy band seems taking it too far in the ridiculous sense. As for a guess on what proceeds NZ Idol, my moneys on another Idol whether it be Australia or America. Do you notice how they pop up within weeks of eachother? Kinda like a series of plauges...

it does matter. anyone who looks at this situation can see a reflection of New Zealand and it basically mocks new zealand music. Its also creating more and more media hype so that more and more people will end up listening to the edge. like the hundreds of young 12 year olds who will get attracted to liking music 'in the top 40s' no matter how good or crap it is. radio stations have alot more power than you think no matter how much it actually affects you, and the rising influence of the edge is just deteriorating the slowly improving New Zealand music scene.
