RE: Synth intros Posted: Wed Jan 24, 2007 11:00 am Nobody does a Synth intro like Pink Floyd. Case and Point: Shine on you Crazy Diamond But yeah, the synth sound seems to be coming back due to this whole 80's retro thingie. |

RE: Synth intros Posted: Wed Jan 24, 2007 8:52 pm Hammond organs seem to be making a comeback (or maybe they didn't go away). The Mars Volta use one on most of their songs to great effect, I think like the synth intro it adds a whole new dimension to a song. RE: Synth intros Posted: Wed Jan 24, 2007 9:13 pm Yeah Hammond organs are freakin cooooool. Deep Purple muthafukka! The Rhodes keyboard is making a comeback too - due to people sampling the sound so much it's become an icon - now after decades of being a rare collectors item they're manufacturing them again, exactly the same way too. |

RE: Synth intros Posted: Thu Jan 25, 2007 7:05 pm Personally I love synths though I do think they can bring the danger of aging something much quicker, I'm also a fan of getting synthy sounds out of a guitar at times. For me the old b3 Hammond rocks even as a ghost track, kinda fattening out a wall of guitars and yeah rhodes pianos are cool too. I'd add to the list... The Oberheim (sp?) heard on a ton of synth solos from Styx and Yes and a million prog imitators, not to mention used at times by Dream Theater. The Mini Moog- Evil little bastard of a sound- just a full on square wave generator- Ditto for the Roland Juno Piano, in my opinion few things set mood as a romantic inspired piano intro - the whole Muse does Rachmaninov thing really works for me.. Personally the continuum keyboard fascinates me no end... check out the intro to Dream Theater's 'Octivarium' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continuum_%28instrument%29 |

RE: Synth intros Posted: Thu Jan 25, 2007 8:07 pm Jon Lord... Old Keyboardist in Deep Purple. The only man cool enough to put an organ through a Marshall with distortian AND use a wah-wah pedal. Heavier than ANY guitaring back in the day. Badass. |

RE: Synth intros Posted: Mon Feb 12, 2007 5:50 pm I realy need to get my hands on a synth. Any suggestions. My price range is $200-600, so it will have to be pretty entry level. |
