Verrry interesting. Potentially sinister, even. But let's be sure it's Sony's doing before we start building the firebombs.

For it to be the cause the CD would have to be a mixed mode CD. Put it back in your laptop CD drive and navigate to it with Windows Explorer. If it only contains *.cda files, then I'm sorry - it's not responsible.

If it does have other files - usually an info file and a subdirectory - then it was probably only primed to ensure your laptop had the wherewithall to view the multi-media presentation it contains along with the audio. Hence the recommended updates.

Importantly though, don't forget who actually clicked that pesky OK button. It was still a choice.

Not sure about Sony, but the software I have come across seems to be a form of copy protection. Once you have installed the software, you won't be able to copy the CD.

In terms of it containing spyware, I find it unlikely that software supplied by Sony will install something as dodgy as wabu.com.

Well i just learnt to say "Aaah NO!" cuz SONY and many other companies are dodgey even if we dont no it. Just get an Anti Spy ware program www.adaware.com for free and carry on. Check the Info file .. if you know wat your doing just look at the .txt files that automate the cd's files and see if theres anything about Wabu.com or sumthing in there. Other than that talk to a sony tech support .. it may take a year to get through but it may be worth it. Perhaps its your CD player that had a weakness and coinsidentally happend to download the spyware as an update from sum punk.
