I think there might be more to this thing under the surface Sad I am aware that there were a load of noise complaints, particularly from the little Japanese guy below, apparently I hear there were complaints coming from a local backpackers too, I also hear these weren't being passed on to Hysteria?
I don't want to sound like a conspiracy theorist on that count, as tempting as it may be- the part that does make me wonder if there are political wranglings going on though is the rumour circulating the council want to knock the block down and put up more urban slums....

They can't fill the bloody apartment complexes they've got, NZ has a comparitively tiny population density, approx 25 people per sq km, we have a council run by a pack of one eyed assholes who are there by the grace of the last lot being perceived as totally fucking useless, NOT on their own personal merits IMO... asshole developers are putting these bloody places up with no regard to the fact a city is noisy, I mean is it really worth cutting costs and not putting in double glazing?? The city has lost its gathering points, it is no longer desirable to hang out there, costs for parking are exorbitant and growing every time someone puts up another eyesore of a building, infrastructure is totally fucked up, the CBD particularly is starting to smell like a fucking cesspit... I look at the bottle store that used to be the Temple and the ugly ediface behind it and have to wonder what the hell the politicians are thinking about when they build their future grey zones and their white elephants towards the waterfront (shit the last one was potentially going to kill off biggest commercial gateway to NZ at a potential cost of hundreds of millions annually for another bloody stadium) . All this is ego, monuments to the gross stupidity of petty beurocrats who should have kept to making cheap cereal Evil
I can't help but think the alternative is just as bad Sad & Blue
Hysteria is only part of the issue here as disappointing as it is they've had to close their doors. Hell yes I'll sign the petition... and sign me up for the revolution.... or more likely- student march up queen st Mr Green

Im shocked and appalled.

Stupid local councils and noise complaints and the retarded resource management act that uses completely immeasurable words like "Unreasonable noise" How are you suposed to measure the reasonability of noise?

And jackasses who move to the city centre then complain about the noise are equally retarded.

SIGN PETITION TO SAVE HYSTERIA BAR!!!
17 April 2007 - 2:41am — frankenbok
Please read, and sign petition to help save Hysteria!!!

14th of April 2007.

To all our customers,
I would firstly like to thank you for all your custom during the last two years. It is unfortunately with a sad heart I
have to inform you that Hysteria Rock and metal bar has been forced to close down by the Auckland City Council
for what we consider to be a totally unfair and an unjust decision.
1. On the 29th of March the directors of the company found out that the club had a continuing noise issue
while pursuing our license renewal. Within 12hours of our enquiry the council moved to have an Abatement
notice served on the directors of the company with this being issued on the 30th of March. We were given 4
days to comply with this notice.
2. During the next week, my legal people have dealt with the Auckland City Environmental department and
have complied with the abatement notice completely. We have also made certain changes to the club
including installation of further sound proofing and limiting the number of live performances until the issue
can be completely rectified. The environmental department has now been satisfied in regards to the
abatement notice as we have complied with it totally.
3. On the 4th of April, our consultants where advised that our current liquor license would not be renewed, and
with our current one expiring on the 6th of April, were told to cease trading the evening of that day. The
reason given was due to the existing abatement notice.
4. We lodged a further application to have our license renewed on the 10th of April, but have now been
informed that they now do not consider the applicant and premises to be suitable for the purposes the
license is being requested for and have declined again to issue a liquor license to the premises.
We consider the overall handling of this matter to be not only appalling, but to be totally unjust. There has been
very little, if any consultation or consideration given the bar, staff or people that attend our premises. We also
consider the total lack of discussion and assistance in this matter to be completely wrong and shows no
consideration for the people it is affecting.
Lastly, I can only apologies to the people this situation has affected;
• The bands whose performances we have had to cancel
• The supporters of these bands that have either purchased tickets or have come along on the day to see
these bands
• My staff, for the uncertainty this situation has provided for them
• And for the people of Auckland City that enjoy Rock, Heavy metal or punk music which we specialize in. The
closure of HYSTERIA has resulted in the closure of one of the last club specializing in YOUR music.
We can now only hope that with the support of our customers, friends and colleagues and the continuing
pressure we can continue apply together, the council will see reason and reinstate our license so that we can
reopen the club soon. If you are able to assist in any way please email [email protected] or ring 303-1331.
I will keep you informed as things progress and to all my customers past or present, I wish you all the best in the
future.
Yours Faithfully
Ian Crates
Managing Director
