i remember oncei was 7 and me and my mum were at her mates house and i was in the lounge with their daughter and my mum said all she heard me say was "my mum calls u a golliwog" hahaha quite ufnny thinking back

Yes they are considered so, and I guess this is due to crude characteristics generally proscribed.
You can see it in the anti-Semite stuff too, long nose , beady eyes, rubbing hands, lots of money.

Cheap generalizations normally cause offense, the carry over effect of this I guess can be debated, but I'm hopeful most people look at these things as a product of their times and maybe we have "progressed" a bit.

Although looking at the way Arabs and Muslims are portrayed in Western Media I'm probably hopelessly wrong again.
