I work in a newspaper and I'm doing some boring rugby world cup crap design... aside from the imagery I tune out of all the other details... ie: the teams, when the games are.

Care factor = ZERO

I actually fell asleep out of boredom at a live All Blacks match Laughing

Beating Italy like that in soccer... now that'd be something to cheer about.

wallabies was 94-3 I think.

gregan is such a wanker.

king- do you feel there is much depth to a design that is produced by someone who has no passion for what they are producing for?

It depends on the designer.

I'm professional in my approach... but the end result will be a half-arsed effort - simply because of the shit I've been given to work with (ie: someone elses work which I have to mess with, and it's a flat, un-alterable image....). Generic-as-fuck... black background, painted fans faces, flags... *yawn*

The rep I'm dealing with is a bit of a pain... shit in = shit out, in my opinion.

I've done heaps of work that's completely out of my element - really feminine looking stuff, hip emo "teen" oriented stuff, upper class fashion stuff... and done well at it.

But there's days where you just throw it together just to get it out of the way.

guess that's the downside of working for a someone. Although, I find with any design project, I can still meet my personal enjoyment needs while meeting the criteria of the client, you just have to find elements of each individual case that you can find inspiration from.

It's a bit of give and take. Sometimes I put out stuff I'm not at all proud of, then I do some stuff that more than makes up for it.

I've got a good reputation for my work, but it comes with a downside - people expect super awesome amazing shit every time at the drop of a hat... and creativity doesn't always work that way.

Thankfully I do stuff on the side too, so I get to to band oriented stuff too.

Oh, and I must add, there's something oddly satisflying about doing a good job on a style that's completely out of my scope of experience. Trying something new and getting praise for it is one thing that keeps me trying to do better.

Rugby sux - it was used in the olden days to hide their homosexuality and to fulfil their urge to sniff another mans sweaty balls.

Yeah while browsing through stock photos to use for sports oriented designs for our newspaper I have seen many instances of the following:

- Hands on crotches
- Guys getting wedgies from several males, in order to jump up and grab the ball
- Men standing behind other men bent over in very tiny shorts
- Hands on inner thighs

In all honesty I can appreciate how fanatical people get about the game, even though it's nothing I'll ever actually *get*. Rugby heads can't understand how into music people like me can get, so it's a case of different strokes for different folks... however I find it hilarious just how much importance people place on it - you'd think some people actually lost/won the game themselves. IT'S A SMALL GROUP OF DUDES CHASING A BALL.

The people I see at the games disgust me too. Guys behaving like neanderthals, boozed up to the max, yelling some of the stupidest stuff I've ever heard (and I played in a metal band, I've heard some REALLY stupid shit). I feel sorry for the families that go to the game.

Yeah I'm the same. Some of the stuf I hand in is just up to standard to get the grade. Other projects are really enjoyable and I couldn't care less what the grade is because I've had fun and learnt alot while doing it.

Huh? I thought we were talking about how gay rugby is?

And one more question ... what does Rugby and Music have in common?
Nothing ... why the hell are we talking about rugby in a music forum? Is it really worth a thread?

PS I'm sick and grumpy if you hadn't noticed.
