This is my first post although I've been a member for months. I'm an oldie, but I love all sorts of music including both new and old NZ bands, especially The Bats!
Can't help with band management per se but can say that many suburban pubs/taverns are often crying-out for live music but just don't know where to find it and can't afford top dollar.
I worked for, and then managed a surburban Dunedin pub for a few years. Apart from the odd "drifter" with a guitar and a songbook, we were never approached to hire a band. And, being so busy there was no time to actively seek them out.
Bear in mind that there are many venue opportunities out there. They may not be able to pay heaps, and they may ask a band to perform a few "well-known" covers along with their original stuff. But they will advertise the gig, provide an audience, and give bands some initial exposure.
