Does anyone have or know where I can find any information on copyrighting original music in NZ. I've looked everywhere!

write your lyrics out, sign em, date em andp ut them in a sealed envolope and send them to yourself, get the post mark stamp, dont open, vuwella

as long as you've got the original drafts with the date on em and a © symbol you're basically copyrighted, draft being anything + everything from paper to tapes to digital media...

It can definitely pay to do that at least, I've had to produce evidence of having written a song in the past when a dickhead ex band member tried to claim ownership of something not theirs. I did, as it turned out have the lyrics scrawled on the back of a play booklet from before I knew them + had a lot of working notes on things scribbled in the margains but the date and © were enough for APRA to turn round and dismiss the claim.

I keep a large folder of everything I write down now as a result.
