Any roots music fans out there?

Hi,

I'm currently organising an NZ tour for Australian roots act Ryan Toohey.

Ryan plays an alternative blend of roots, blues, folk and rock. He and his band use slide guitar, acoustic guitar, djembe drums, stomp box, blues harp and acoustic bass in a huge jam session.

We're doing this all independently, no booking agents or promoters.

I'm trying to find out which venues and cities would appreciate this kind of music. Any suggestions on which bars/pubs to hit up?

We'll be coming over in August to play the Bay Of Islands Jazz and Blues Fest, and will tour both islands that month.

I suggest you plan this tour to cover as many parts of NZ as possible - too often are the smaller towns missing out because of their size.

Usually artists from overseas will do the big 3 - Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. Sometimes they add in Dunedin and Hamilton, but the rest of NZ still misses out.

There's quite a few good venues in other parts of NZ - Whangarei, Whakatane, Oamaru, Timaru, Invercargill, Palmerston North, New Plymouth, Takaka, Wanaka, Queenstown, Nelson, Kaikoura, Rotorua, Napier/Hastings, Tauranga, Taupo and many other towns.

Let me know what sort of venues you are interested in having the concerts held at - small or large - and where in NZ you want to go. I can send you details of any specific venues, or you can view this information in our gig guide.
