who is the most overlooked/under rated nz band? Posted: Wed Apr 14, 2004 5:25 pm I see alot of good nz music happening, but alot of bands are missing out, maybe for various reasons, but alot more should be played then whats been going on....so who are being done short? i rekon alot of rock bands are as the industry doesnt see them as comercially viable, but when you look at the greats, most of whom are kinda rock. Anyway....how about some names so we can check them out and maybe see some more of them. Cheers rob |

RE: who is the most overlooked/under rated nz band? Posted: Thu Apr 15, 2004 10:37 pm Our guitarist met one of the former members of RMFTB recently. Good dude... Oh, and regarding the topic of this discussion: predictably... us. |

RE: who is the most overlooked/under rated nz band? Posted: Mon Apr 19, 2004 5:28 pm I saw rmftb open for fear factory at the power station, the guitarist broke the strings on his guitar but they still kept on going, and they still kicked butt! Im checking out new ending at the moment, i even saw goodnight nurse when they came to raglan a while back with 48 may and another band. More bands should tour around to the smaller places in that same kinda set up too....like if they are lacking gears maybe they could unify with others to make it happen. i dunno, still need more names of bands to check out.... cheers |

RE: who is the most overlooked/under rated nz band? Posted: Tue Jun 22, 2004 7:35 pm A great band that shouldn't be neglected is the one of the ultimate Hardcore bands in the country 'Evil Priest', 'Sick of it All'. Theres many of others never neglect the bands they are the best of what this country has to offer in the music industry. THEY DONT GET ENOUGH FUCKEN RECOGNITION!!!!!!! |

RE: who is the most overlooked/under rated nz band? Posted: Thu Mar 10, 2005 2:41 pm too many heavier bands dont get recognition. its only the pop and r&b artists that get recognised. at least its easier for them, because they are pop. check out Inverse Order (www.inverseorder.co.nz) they need more recognition. |

Posted: Thu Mar 10, 2005 4:35 pm self shameless promotion, but Quarter2 , we just got our forum started up, it would be cool to see couple of you peeps join http://www.quarter2.com/Quarter2Forum/index.php but there is a shit load of bands that should be up there rather than the ones that have made it. yeah New Ending are pretty sick!!played with them a couple of times, and so looking forward to Strung Out |

RE: who is the most overlooked/under rated nz band? Posted: Mon Mar 14, 2005 5:20 pm //Arnt they nu-metal? I guess that's your call. If you're going to say that anything that has a dynamics between quiet and loud is Nu-Metal then yes - Inverse Order would be Nu-Metal... but then so would a whole lot of other bands... I think the simple reality is that if you play music with Dynamics and/or choruses then you say 'hmm...i don't like it choruses, it's probably nu-metal'. I'm curious... if you can, describe Nu-Metal WITHOUT degrading it - ie - speak musically as to what you think makes a nu-metal song/band. I'm keen to see your reply. |

RE: who is the most overlooked/under rated nz band? Posted: Mon Mar 14, 2005 5:55 pm My vote for most overlooked goes to Ishtar. Ok so it's not really true most overlooked is probably some genius band who no-one will ever hear of cause they just play in a garage every Wednesday or something. However it is as good an opportutiny to self promote and say Go to www.amplifier.co.nz and check out the two songs we've put up. |

Nu metal to me is lack of melody, lack of solos, simple boring riffs that sound the same as a million other bands, unimaginative drumming and generally lack of talant, lack of imagination. RE: who is the most overlooked/under rated nz band? Posted: Tue Mar 15, 2005 11:33 pm You were meant to do it without degrading nu-metal! Simply because lack of talent, lack of imagination are kind of stupid in the sense that it's a matter of interpretation. Lack of melody would be grunting? Growling? Tuneless? Or if you meant good melody then I guess that's interpretation as well. I assume you were saying Inverse Order were those things? Things like guitar solos are there. I guess the difference is that we don't just build songs around guitar solos. If it fits it fits, if it doesn't it doesn't really matter. I've always thought Inverse Order drums were imaginative. There are certainly alot of things being hit. Depends what you're comparing it to. Metal? We're not a (insert Black, Death, Thrash, Doom etc) Metal band. Or a Jazz Band. We're probably an Alternative Rock band. I assume you've seen us? At the bands comp? Once? Come see us again. I'll play you a solo. |
