Shy and wanting to know...Can it work?

I've always been interested in starting a band but it just hasn't happen yet due to me, if you know what I mean. I'm a born writer and I can write f*d up good songs and beat them out a bit on the guitar. I have an interesting voice which isn't "good" but it isnt bad...ill-practiced soprano and deep buzzing alto for a female (think Hole or yeah yeah yeahs). I could definitely learn and play practiced guitar bits but I really wouldn't consider myself a "musician" since I don't have much/any practice or experience.

You guys are all musicians...what do you think about this, would it still work? Is that all it takes? And why am I finding it so hard to start! I feel so under qualified, pretending to be a musician when I'm really just a writer

It's all about finding the right people. People who know exactly where you're coming from and you can musically bounce ideas off each other. Like finding the right partner, it's all about the chemistry, that spark you can't put your finger on.

I got into playing in bands because of friends at highschool that all jammed together. Eventually when we left school some of us stayed in touch and got things going... and as you start hanging with more musicians, more doors open up, you meet random people who might be on the same wavelength, coming from the same angle as yourself.

If you don't have any musical associations, just start going to gigs. Hang out with people, get talking.

Heh, it's ironic, because now I could go do any band I wanted and would have no trouble getting it off the ground... just now I'm so busy with other things I can't. I gots to go with what pays the bills.
