Nine Inch Nails in NZ!
Posted: Mon Dec 1, 2008 10:10 am
Industrial rock act Nine Inch Nails will perform a one-off New Zealand show in Auckland this February, front man Trent Reznor has confirmed.

The band will perform at Auckland's Vector Arena on February 17 before travelling to Australia to headline the Soundwave rock music festival for five shows.

The show is likely to be popular among fans, as Nine Inch Nails haven't visited New Zealand since touring with the Big Day Out music festival in 2000.

Since then, Reznor has released several Nine Inch Nails albums, including 2005's With Teeth, 2007's Year Zero and a companion remix CD, and a double album of instrumental tracks called Ghosts I-IV.

Reznor has also embraced new methods of distributing music. Earlier this year, he made the 10-track album The Slip available for free download on the band's website, www.nin.com.

He is also known for hiding items for fans at concert venues, selling T-shirts with code embedded on them and creating online treasure hunts based around concepts for albums.

Nine Inch Nails' most well known album is 1994's The Downward Spiral, featuring the controversial single Closer.

The band's Australasian shows will be among the first with new drummer Ilan Rubin from Welsh nu-metal act Lost Prophets, who replaces the departing Josh Freese.

Tickets for the show go on sale on December 10.

thats some great news but unless they bring more bands from soundwave with them (lamb of god, devildriver, etc) then i will have to skip this one. i can't imagine NIN selling out vector by themselves. besides maiden and satyricon take priority over this one (for me that is). roll on 2009!

Meh. IMO, throw-away dime-a-dozen derivitave and generic American dreck. Wal-mart-core. But that's just me.

I wouldn't underestimate their pulling power.

You may doo ??!! At least I would hope so for NZ fans - I would say someting maybe a little more side line that LOG or DDriver tho - maybe All that Remains, there was whispers they were suppose to go down to NZ with killswitch last year or maybe unearth ??

It is really expensive for them to come down to NZ and not sell out.. Some of the comments I have heard through roadies is that the venue support etc is out of this world.. you would not believe some of the horror stories I have heard from them about this..

I reckon a local NZ band should support. Apparently it's illegal for them not to have a local terrortorial support. I wonder who would be considered.

Yeah there's an actual law apparently, that the Labour party had put in place for local artists. I've heard this from a couple of people in the NZ Music industry. I thought it was strange at first too.

Wow, if that's a law then it's a stupid law!

Forcing people to have NZ support acts?

What if they're crap? Or unsuitable?

Sounds like a consolation prize for the kid who came last.
"They're good... for a Kiwi band"

I'm sick of this lowering of the bar.

Yeah that's what i thought. But "some" of the NZ music is getting way better than previous years.
But that doesnt go to say that the fact that Op Shop is NZ's best band in the country pretty much states that we do have low standards.
