I'm gonna say the most original music and currently in my to 10 albums right now is this umg band The 88.. I just randomly discovered them on zune, got their album for 99 cents, nothing lost here! Best 99 cents i've ever spent! LOL

To be honest I haven't bought much new stuff in 2008, mostly older stuff.

Judas Priest's Nostradamus is up there
Death Magnetic.. not necessarily the best for me, but I've played it heaps, just coz it's Metallica, fanboi that I am.
Oh, and Cynic's "Traced in Air"
DEFINATELY Clutch's "Full Fathom Five" CD & DVD
And though I haven't heard much yet, my first listen of the new Satyricon is brilliant.

Stuff from 2008 I haven't checked (yet) out that probably absolutely rules...
Hate Eternal's - Fury & Flames"
Biomechanical - Cannibalised
Opeth - Watershed (I'm no Opeth fan, but everybody's harassing me to get this one)
Gojira - The Way of All Flesh
Origin - Antithesis

The live Behemoth album was garbage... they play too fast for their own good. Sloppy as heck.

man thats a tough call. Kayne's Album was really good this year to me.
