What, you guys dont even consider metal a style of music?
Why is it not one of the styles in the poll?
And dont tell me stuff like its a sub-genre of rock, because its not.

At the end of the day, there is limited space available. Depending on the style of Metal, I think it fits nicely into Rock or Alt Rock. This is widely accepted on loads of other sites on the 'net.

Mad Metal has nothing in common with rock or alternative. You cant even compare bands like feelers, opshop, radiohead, (whatever, I dunno too many) with bands like In Flames, Opeth, Pantera etc...

Its like day and night. Im surprised you people cant see that. Metal is a genre of its own, it has its own sub-genres (black metal, progressive, doom, deth metal etc...)

Whats wrong with you people?

Oh I fully agree, however, as I said in my original post, it comes down to space available.

We're not saying that Rock and Metal are the same thing.

There are thousands of different genres, and we've had to make a decision as to what the "main" genres are.

To do this, we've taken a good look around to see what other publications are doing, and have come up with the list as it is on the poll currently, and also in the artist pages.

maybe it could have been rock/alt rock as one like blues/jazz

but, yea, i know the diff between metal and rock, to say they have nothing in common is wrong. Just now there is so much differance it seems funny having say, smashing pumpkins and fear factory in the same cat.

Hmmmm Rock/Alt Rock could have been in one category together maybe. But then again if there was metal there would have to be classical too....man there's so many genres of music. But that's a good thing! Makes your ears less bored.

Metal is not a minority like classical these days. Metal is one of the most popular genres with young white people if you didnt know that already.

I know I know I know

What about punk-emo-ska-rock?

Aren't we lucky that there's so many different styles of music we can listen to? Cool

Ok, right there, you thought you'd say something smart, but you made yourself look dumb.

These 2 previous posts, the first one fits under metal and the second one fits under rock.

Metal doesnt fit into anything because it is a genre itself.

Why you didnt leave out say electronic instead? You see it would be doing the exactly the same thing you did with metal.

You'd be surprised how many artists list that as their genre in their biographys.

Sure it might come across as though I'm being smart but I was only making a point that there are far more styles of music out there than what we have listed in the poll. Metal isn't the only genre that has been missed out.

Whoa, bro, chill out! I can't understand what you've taken offence to! Those posts were both jokes and weren't taking a dig at anyone in anyway. We were simply joking around about how there is a lot of genres out there. What's done is done, it's just a vote.

The boundaries that seperate one style from another are pretty blurred now, and even if metal was added, some other genre would not have been.

It's pretty arrogant to put your favorite genre above another which isn't. You didn't appreciate this poll leaving out metal, yet you brush away classical and electronica. Music is the one thing that everybody has a strong opinion on it seems.

By the way, metal and classical are two of my favorite styles in music - as well as all but three of the genres listed on this here poll. But I don't think those three genres (I won't say which ones) should have to be removed, I know lots of people that do like them.

Dude, its just a matter of popularity really, I mean the most popular styles should be on there. I think metal is way more popular then country/folk, reggay/dub and blues/jazz.

I dont even care about these polls, I could care less, everybody knows that R&B/hip hop is gonna win (God know why), just hurts to see the lack of respect for metal in general, and not just here.

The poll is asking you what your favourite style is - it's not a poll asking what the most popular style is.

If we were to change the poll now and add metal, it would be unfair not only to the metal genre but also to the other genres. The other genres have been on there for sometime now, and have already received votes.

We appreciate all of your comments.
