I would hardly call him a "man", and I haven't heard the new single. NZ Idol was not my idea of a good way to spend taxpayer money on "promoting" new NZ artists.
Having said that, I did watch many of the episodes and thought Michael Murphy had the best "presence" and "mass appeal" to, of course, a largely teeny-bopper audience. I was surprised Ben Lummis won. Although he is a fine young man with a good voice.
But, after all, the programme makers have consistently refused to reveal how many text votes were received and for whom......which means that they could have disregarded all votes and simply decided the winner for themselves. But, naturally, they would not have done that ...

Well surprise, surpise! Turns out that Mr Murphy's hot, new original single is actually a cover of a song released by a Texan band. No great shock really given that the entire "Idol" format is essentially an anti-original, talent-free karaoke contest.

I was particularly dismayed by Murphy's manager, Paul Ellis, who knew all along where the song was from - an American songwriter. In true "shoot the messenger" style he attempted to discredit the blogger who revealed the truth, by saying that they committed fraud everyday by downlaoding songs from the internet. For a start, that would be copyright infringement - not fraud. And secondly, what's worse - downloading a song for personal enjoyment or deliberately defrauding the entire NZ record-buying public by claiming that a song is original when it isn't?

I want my money back.

It's a pity for Michael really, as the recording company runs the show for him now. He's tied into a contract and basically has to do what they want when they want it.

I agree. iI think that Michael doesn' t get to choose what

However his single is great and really suites his voice well.

Michael could well sing to save himself. He is a "looker". I see nothing of the "fake" in his smile, and do not believe for one minute that he is "horrible".
He is simply another young fellow with a good voice who entered a competition and found himself swept-up in the hoop-la.
I personally feel he has more talent than about 99% of so-called rappers now flooding the NZ music market with their repetitive drivel, bolstered by videos shamelessly emulated from those from the US.
I am not a Michael Murphy fan, but I wish him all the best

I agree with mozart- if Michael wasn't a good singer he wouldn't have come second in NZ idol

It sucks that he might end up going to court over that song, he was only singing what he was told to sing and look how it ended up. It's almost as though they are trying to make Michael look bad by singing copyrighted songs in order to make Ben look even better.

and u ask ....if micheal cant sing why did he come second in N Idol? ....because of the votes from all the 10-12year old little girls whom think there IN LUUUUV... they will sooner or later grow up and realise he is not what they thought he was example: (gd singer, nice looking)... thats why, nothing more! i watched american idol when it was on ......THATS what you call gr8 singing and entertainment! oh another thing that used to ruck me off was when micheal was introduced to the audience and he'd come out always always doing this little pointy thing to them i personally think camillia shoulda either won or come second!

it may look like it but i dont hate micheal he seems like a really cool guy, i just think hes in the wrong business

I am from Taupo so him and i have something in common i guess, but every time we got our weelky news paper it always stated Vote For Micheal No One Else.....it was like omg! we are trying to find the best singer to represent our country not to just vote for micheal just because hes from Taupo..

Camilla annoyed me with her 'Thank you' after every sentence. But all that aside, she is a great singer.

It's surprising that Michael's and Ben's websites are still under construction even after Ben released his album- makes someone a bit slack with the internet publicity side of things.

i officialy hate this whole idol madness thing.i feel that the whole show is just some random money making scheme and id rather have that money spent of talented, unsigned bands. i saw this ad for the idol Cd and i think i saw william hung innit. i need to get my eyes checked. Hahaha thats really sad that Micheal Murphy is now an official singer...come on dude...my nan can sing better than you although she doesnt have a couple of beers in.

Its really really R.E.A.L.L.Y S.A.D!!!!!! man I watched him last night on Top Of The Pops...the singing was HORRIFIC I dont know what the HELL!! chicks see in him...hes just not good looking I can say that my best friends dad looks way hotter than him.

I don't like him either. He just rubs me up the wrong way, the same as 'Millsy' did on Australian Idol. Just a smarmy fakeness about him.

As for the new single, I dislike it very much; it's a travesty that it's at number one in the charts here. The song has nothing to do with music at all, and a lot more to do with the voting of teenage girls.

It's badly recorded, too. The doubling of the main vocal line is all out; it sounds like a chorus of drunken teenagers at a party - not in unison and out of key. You'd think the guy could sing in time with himself!!
