Anyone remember 'Scarf'?
Posted: Sun Sep 19, 2004 9:24 pm
Say, I was watching the end of a show on C4 and caught the video by Push, Push; Trippin'. That got me thinking about other kiwi bands from the 80's with videos, etc.

I remembered this band called Scarf, which had a one-hit-wonder that went to #1 on the charts here in NZ. If I recall rightly, they created the video themselves etc (this was way before NZ-on-air).

Does anyone remember what the song was, or if it can be downloaded anywhere? I think Scarf were way into Def Leppard, which influenced their songs somewhat.

I remember thinking it was quite a good song.

I was driving home the other night and heard the very end of the song on the radio, but for the life of me couldn't remember the name of it. It bugged me so much that I contacted the radio station and asked them to go back over their play list for that night.
They came back to me with the name... ROSEANNE.
I think that's probably the one you are thinking about - I can't recall them ever releasing anything else.
As you posted this message a year ago, I'm figuring that you have already found this out!

Geez that brings back memories, Scarf were a good band,i think i have something on video that was taped off tv years ago made by nz on air. There was another band around the same time called Nine Livez that made a small ,short lived impact too, wern't as cool as Scarf though.

I can remember both those bands. From what I remember Scarf had been doing the rounds for quite some time in Aussie before returning to NZ. Beyond that I remember they had a half hour show on tv on one of the maori programmes around then. About half their set was covers and the other half was very Def Leppard like.
I remember the guitarist had an rg550 the same colour as my 550, flourescent yellow and did a pretty good version of Van Halen's Eruption.

I saw Nine livez when I was about 12 at an all ages gig at the power station. They were, as best I remember, a good live act. Had a Motley crue thing going on but they dropped in a megadeth cover, from memory. When The Angels released their Dogs are talking cassingle over here as a b side they had Shihad's 'Down Dance' and Nine Livez' 'Live it up'. there's a spiel on the cassingle bout wanting to help young up and coming talent.

Was the footage of Scarf you saw the same one that they played a version of Gary Moore's "The Loner "on ?
The Nine Livez song i recall was "Man Overboard" i think, yeah was very Motley Crue, all this was going on at the same time as Push Push's "Trippin
Out On You" and "Song 27", the live music scene in NZ was so much cooler in those day's, big in house PA's, band rooms, large audiences and pay!

Does anyone out there know where to find Scarf's song Roseanne? I had it years ago on tape, and have been searching everywhere for a copy on CD.
