music genres - lets keep it simple

I am so sick of all the millions of different genres of music, it is just way too confusing and there aren't two people in the whole world who agreely completely on a definition.

e.g. Punk. You can never just say punk anymore. There's now - hardcore punk, pop punk, punk rock, old punk, post punk, ska punk etc

And then no two people can decide on exactly which genre(s) any certain band goes into!

I say we scrap all that rubbish and just keep it simple.

Jazz, Rock, Pop, Electronica, Hip Hop, R n B, Country, Punk, Metal, Classical, Folk... are there any others we really need?

That's enough for a start anyway. Okay, it might be a little weird putting Simple Plan and the Ramones in the same genre, so maybe you could mix two genres - e.g. pop punk for Simple Plan, but that's as far as it should go!

Keeping it simple is not really that simple (excuse the PUNishing PUN...) cause you'll have all these bands who don't really fit into any of the genres or half fit into them..... it's a good idea thou cause i get confused all the time and my bro still doesnt believe that ska is a real genre....

Think about the job we have - over 1500 artists listed on the site, and they're all sorted into their own genres as well. Some are probably wrong, but it's a mammoth task!

And yes it's true that some bands just don't fit anywhere. That's why we have the 'Misc' genre!

Im really anooyed now at the mo Lil Flip "Sunshine!" is playing and I hear two t.v's at the same time but the other is slower than the other one so u one t.v sing and then the other t.v repeat what has jst been said!

Any who Music is simply music if u can listen to its music sooo lets jst 4get who go's where some how some-one makes a little bit of everything.
