RE: Punk is not the new Pop Posted: Sun Dec 5, 2004 12:37 pm I agree with you nicole_m - hip hop/RNB has been the new pop for a while now, and all these wiggas and skanks disgust me! That genre is all about parties, hoes, bling bling, and cars (just watch the music videos!). But pop-punk is also making its mark too. Pop culture is all about fashion and selling out (making music for money, or being popular) - something I'm fully against. Its all mainstream radio stations fault! I remember a time when I's surprised to hear Limp Bizkit/Korn being played on ZM - now they're having competitions for Pearl Jam's greatest hits album...it's just not cricket! They should stop thrashing good rock/punk on mainstream radio and leave it to the stations that have a good rotation of rock/punk. It's also not helped by bands like Simple Plan, Good Charlotte etc making damn "radio-friendly" music! Its just whiney crap! Write some decent lyrics that mean something, get some good riffs, whack 'em together, and don't over-produce it! |

RE: Punk is not the new Pop Posted: Mon Dec 6, 2004 4:49 pm well, both hip hop and punk are the new pop. you see people walking down the streer in either (A) hip hop inspired gear (the hoodies and baggy pants and all) OR (B)punk inspired gear.(band t shirts and studded belts and safety pins and all) pop is basically fashion, its gonna change again sometime. |

RE: Punk is not the new Pop Posted: Mon Dec 6, 2004 9:34 pm Pop is what ever is popular in the charts the charts are made by what singles people buy who buys singles? Kids, as they cannot afford to buy albums so us adults that dont buy singles anymore DONT run the chart therefore what we consider pop music is normally classified as rubbish as our tastes have developed and moved on to better things pop therefore is what children listen to. Punk is a child like fun sound that all can enjoy and has become popular with the single buying public in a watered down way... Pop punk, is a total sound of its own, a corporate money making machine that is all well and good, but not really punk when you go right down to the roots of it all and the stand point it was really against- new romantics. Political pop with a ska twist is a better discription of most modern punk. I like it all so who cares eh? |
