JACK LIVE - LIVE 'N LOCAL Posted: Wed Dec 8, 2004 8:51 am Hey everybody. Ya know that live n local competition that you probably got asked to vote in lately ? .. well, i always wondered how a band would come out of nowhere in the votes, and suddenly knock off a band that had been in the top 3 for weeks. I assumed it was due to people making using wildcard email addresses and voting for themselves numerous times. Now im not sure about Chuganaut who won - they may have been completely legit in the voting proccess ... however, this was an email that i recieved yesterday regarding bands that did cheat. I have not disclosed names. something to think about ... Wonder why it was impossible to get anywhere on the jacklive competition??? From: "The Band" To: email addresses undisclosed Subject: RE: You Cheating Punks Date: Wed, 01 Dec 2004 22:59:30 +1300 Thanks. Next time I give a shit what you think, I'll let you know. BTW, for your information, we were coming first with no cheating, until ample cleavage went from like #20 to #1 in the space of a few hours. What can i say, we wanted to beat them, and theres no way we could have if we'd kept it legit. If you think you should have won, take it up with Jacklive. It makes no difference to me or my band. name - band From: "a a" To: email address undisclosed Subject: You Cheating Punks Date: Wed, 01 Dec 2004 11:30:22 +1300 Nice way to cheat yourself to the Big Day Out. You certainly type URLs and make up email addresses better than you play your music. name band |

RE: JACK LIVE - LIVE 'N LOCAL Posted: Wed Dec 8, 2004 11:21 am I too am suspicious of the voting system and the use of software packages that vote automatically. How can a band go from 2% to 12% in one day legitimately - it would involve several hundreds of votes!! Thank goodness Chuganaut didn't stoop to cheating, although they did work hard to encourage fans to vote for them. Whilst being asked by a Jack Live representative to play at one of the Live n'Local gigs, the subject of cheating was raised by the band who were aware of the sudden and meteoric rise of other bands. The representative told them that Jack Live too were aware of the cheating and had steps in place to handle that at the end of the competition. |

RE: JACK LIVE - LIVE 'N LOCAL Posted: Wed Dec 8, 2004 12:22 pm i know that votes got filtered at the end of last years competition - and congratulations to chuganaut who did won - i know there was alot of support behind them. It does however take away credit from those bands who feel robbed as they have put so much credit into getting friends and family into voting, and have been knocked out by a band who will use a wildcard email address to vote hundreds and hundreds of times. There isnt alot of trust left in the competition for some of the bands that have entered for the last two years. |

RE: JACK LIVE - LIVE 'N LOCAL Posted: Wed Dec 8, 2004 7:01 pm That's exactly how Chuganaut felt and why they weren't one of the bands sitting on 20 something percent. No wild cards with Chuganaut! I'm only glad that Jack Live realised what was happening with the voting and didn't give the BDO slot to one of the bands who broke the rules. I hope they can work out some kind of foolproof method of voting for next year. |

RE: JACK LIVE - LIVE 'N LOCAL Posted: Thu Dec 9, 2004 11:31 am Hey we were sitting above Chuganaut in this comp and didn't cheat. Several votes were entered off one computer though. We had people who wanted to vote for us but didn't have email addresses. We made email accounts and voted for them with their express written consent. We weren't cheating like crazy and sitting on 25% but were sitting in about 5th with about 3 or 4%. We had no contact from the promoters to ascertain if all our votes were real or not. I still have the sheets with peoples names address and signatures to prove that we received real votes. I feel a little bit pissed off about all the hard work we put into this comp for no reason I don't know how the promoters decided who was cheating and who was legit but it would have been nice for them to let us know. Now I think this competition is a waste of time and wouldn't enter again. |

RE: JACK LIVE - LIVE 'N LOCAL Posted: Fri Dec 10, 2004 8:25 am Having calmed down a little since my first post I would enter this comp again as it got us a lot of free advertising and promotion from our local radio and newspaper and a gig at refuel in Dunedin where we made some useful contacts. Thanks to Blink as well at that other nz music site for giving some rational answers to why the judges made the decision they did. |
