What do you want to happen in the NZ music industry during 2005?

It would be nice to see more Nz artists get funding etc.. rather than a select few getting it all, also it would be nice if some of the leading industry people took a few chances and tried something different, paved a new way by giving bands a go that don't sound like American hip hop or Blink 182 clones. There is a huge population of people that are in to more classic style rock etc.., i mean no music executives here wanted to know about The Datsuns until they had done well else where and do you think any of them would have promoted The Darkness for example, no way and now look they're huge.
Come on NZ get out of your comfort zone and pave your own way.

Some originality would be refreshing. So many bands sound like others. When you're older, like me, you hear a song by a new NZ band and think ...yeah right, that's a dead ringer for ....
Sometimes it's just like you've heard it all before. It makes you think they sat down one day to listen to a whole bunch of songs from the 60s and 70s , found one they liked and slightly adapted it. That might fool todays 16-20 year olds but it doesn't fool me.

I'd like to see rap and hip-hop out of fashion. That all sounds more or less the same.
New bands getting into the blues/jazz genres would make a change.

I wouldn't mind seeing more local organisations out there that arrange for national and local artists to perform at local venues, and arrange for more local places for these artists to perform at - like localoutput.com... in fact, I wouldn't mind seeing localoutput making a come back.

I'd also like to see some more originality in music and lyrics - We all know that there are people in NZ that are more than capable of being original and doing something different that grabs your attention - it's about time we saw some more of it hitting our streets and airwaves.

It would be good if there were more NZ-only radio stations on the internet, similar to vision100.com - it's an awesome way to get NZ music out there as it can be played from all over the world.

And lastly, I'd like to see NZ music making a real impact - more NZ artists releasing albums etc, more NZ artists touring the country, more NZ artists going to international events like SXSW and the Popkomm festival, more NZ artists receiving Creative NZ and NZ On Air Funding and more NZ artists on the charts.

Bring on 2005!
