(i dont want this post to contain any dissing of other music tastes/ bands/ singers)

I'd say Avril, with her release of Under My skin- also with singles.
and i think U2 have done well with the release of their album (how to dismantle and atomic bomb) , and of course greenday- american idiot, i'd have to say this album & under my skin were the best albums of 2004.

Yeah, I think I'd say Green Day with American Idiot. I love that albumn and it's so cool how it tells a story.

My vote would have to be for CHUGANAUT - they came a long way in 2004 winning the World Battle of the Bands - their fan base increased one hell of a lot and then playing at the Big Day Out in January. Good on ya guys!

I would definately agree with Green Day. They are all people are talking about with their tour coming our and the recent release of their latest album American Idiot. Which i think is such an amazing album. I've listened to it i dunno how many times its that good! And yea the fact that it has a message/story just makes it cooler.

american idiot is one of the very few decent releases of 2004. great cd, but i must admit, i really miss the inanity of dookie and nimrod, not to mention insomniac.

How to Dismantle an Atomic bomb is a real winner. and i think its the best U2 has came up with in a while, and it is really worth a listen (and that ipod just looks so sweeet)

My vote would have to go to The Music with their album 'Welcome to the North'. It's just so incredible, if you're looking for something new and fresh that will blow you away get that album. It's kinda U2, Led Zeppelin, Jane's Addiction stuff. Best track is 'Open your mind', very inspirational.

Other good bands I discovered last year, or released a album; Modest Mouse, Von Bondies, Ash, Eskimo Joe, The Bleeders, The Polyphonic Spree, Muse and The Pixies, who are very old but I only got into them last year.

Id have to say Steriogram. An amazing album, a music vid that has 4 mtv nominations to its name, a featured song on the international ipod ad, and a grammy nomination against contenders Green Day. (Standing next to Green Day on its own is huge).

Yup U2 did really well this year
another band that did EXTREMELY well this year was Velvet Revolver..with the reception that they got with their debut album and how far theyve come in a year is awesome...Rock n Fucking Roll!!
