Who used to listen to Channel Z?

Are you one of the 49,000 listeners that no longer listen to that fequancy becasue Kiwi is now playing the same songs over and over again?

You may be right in saying bring back channel Z .. there playlisting was much better than what we have now .. but why not try and support Kiwi ? they are trying to do awesome things for NZ music. I have listened to alot of the interviews from bands in the industry with Jason Kerrison at night, and they are really good.

If your purely a listener, i think maybe Kiwi isnt so awesome, but if your involved in the NZ music scene in any way - they keep in touch with the Kiwi bands alot more than all of the other stations.

Dont you think its time radio supported kiwi music more ?

The Edge, ZM, Hauraki, More FM, etc etc seem to to bugger all to help out us kiwis. The Rock, and Kiwi are about the only two mainstream stations that do at least give it a good shot.

Yes i do.... but not going 100% there isn't enough.

Channel Z was doing that, they were playing the most New Zealand music than other stations.

I did suppot kiwi i thought i was a good idea, still sad that Z was gone, kiwi could have made it, but i don't think it has.

How can you say nz music is all good if you only compare it to nz music? you need to compare the best from one country with the best of another.

I agree. I thought KiwiFM was a good idea too, but you need that mix, otherwise it becomes a continuous loop of the same stuff.

I listen to The Rock all day at work. I really enjoy Robert's "Off The Record" clips - these show-case some brilliant New Zealand music. Otherwise, it's just background noise to help pass the day.

Since I spend most of my time at home working on here, I get myself into the mood by streaming Vision100. That's NZ music all the time. However, the mix is random and their library of songs is huge. Plus is great to hear the latest NZ stuff on there too. Could I listen to it all day though? Umm don't think so!

IMO, Channel Z should have stayed Channel Z. However, having a KiwiFM show (for an hour or so a day) would be a good idea.

Yeah that ould have been a lot better option and there would be a lot more people keen on that idea. Yeah the rock for me is background music, as i work every evening, they play too much old stuff....

I want Z back....

i miss channel z. i missed riot and dive in with bomber. bring Z back, people!

I am still a bigger supporter of Z yeah for sure, however, Kiwi has a couple of really cool things which we havent had before. NZ Musicians as hosts ! .. Jason Kerrison, Renee Brennan, etc. How do you get much more in touch with the kiwi music scene than to have the frontman/woman from some of the countriest most widely airplayed bands as the host of a show ?

I think thats a good touch.

The thing is, you have to look at why they changed to being "kiwi" and thats because the ratings were dropping, and nothing they were doing was upping the number of listeners. They had to do something drastic, and it was a HUGE call, but Grant Hislop made the decision to go 100% kiwi, in an effort to try and take hold of that side of the market.

Its the same old story, do you follow what the other stations are doing, and try and do it better than them, or do you take a completely different angle, and try and make a go of it that way.

I guess when you analyse it, do you want to be a market follower, or a market leader ?

Thats probably closer to the reasoning as to why Kiwi changed from being chan Z - but at this point its a 50/50 situation as to if they sink, or float.

It's not Channel Z that I totally miss. Don't get me wrong, it was a great station. But what I really miss is Talkback with Bomber!! I use to love looking foward to sunday nights staying up till midnight listening the dude and katie kate blabbering on about whatever in life.

But now its gone...Bah! and he said he'll be back in february this year!bah! 3 months now, and still no talk back! I mean where is he? off editing for Rip it up magazine?? cant you spare 3 hours every sunday night?!

i thought bomber could be a total ass he is one VERY opiniated person. I love talkback hosts who can argue for and against a topic .. bomber doesnt.
he DID say some really funny crap though.

I liked Angelina and Mel, i thought they were awesome on Z .. but then again i totally like listening to Jason Kerrison on Kiwi, because he has so much to say about NZ music, and the industry.

What bands did people appreciate on Chan Z that they dont hear elsewhere ? ..

Bands Channel Z played that other stations don't? Von Bondies, Modest Mouse, The Libertines, The Hives, Kings of Leon, Muse, Beck, Gomez, The Music, Ash, Pennywise, ...just to name a few. Actually, I think some of those are played on the Rock. But Channel Z is so much better.

I like Ash actually .. they had a cool song a couple of years back called Goldfinger i think ? .. pennywise is often played on The Rock.
Actually what happened to bands like NoFX, Pennywise, Jebediah, Frenzal Rhomb ?

anyone else still listen to those bands ?

and why did Offspring become so damn commercial, there older stuff was so much better ...

when i go driving i stay in my lane .. getting cut off, it makes me insane .. when im in my car dont give me no crap, coz the slightest think and i just might snap :O

I love NoFX. I dont think ive actually ever heard them get played on the radio. They stiill play Pennywise and Jebediah on Z i think (well, used to, but Z's gone which sucks)

older Offspring stuff was definitely way better. They were pretty big anyway, but i guess the music has went through a drastic change. They've gone retro now. it sucks.
