Posted: Tue Jun 8, 2004 7:18 pm
Hey, has anybody made some demos of their own music????

Would you be keen on swapping a copy of your demo for another via the post??

Im keen to start a mail network of getting music around phsyically instead of the net, if anyone is interested post a reply.

Cheers

Swapping demos, contributing to each others recordings, is a gret idea. But surely the physical mailing of these introduces a huge inefficiency? People share demos on this site. Surely something similar can be done with demos?

We can't assume commonality of recording software or equipment. Contributing a track should just need a rough mix of the existing backing/overdubs. The result will be one or more raw (no compression, no reverb or effects) wave files in an agreed format with offset information. These files may be large, but they're not impossibly large to share by ftp.

I'd be really keen to work with other musicians. Especially vocalists - I have two songs here at the moment I'm struggling to sing. But I'd want to mix the contributions, manage treatments, when they were ready.

So why not use web-page downloads and ftp?

Cheers ...

But it's like Rob said, "i aint to good on the pc stuff, just the music side i like".

FTP'ing stuff around gets to complicated for most people.

Something really cool would be completely browser based, and have features like tracking versions (so you have have v1, v2, v3 of the same track, as you progress in the development of it).

Could be done... How much would people be prepared to pay to use something like this? I have no problem in setting it up for free, but all of the downloading/uploading will cost money to run.

Yea, the ideas are varied, like i want to straigth exchange demo one for one, but also have like a place where people could lay down a track so other people visiting the site could their touch to it. The idea to me is simple, but the work behind the net side of things would crush me, thru the mail idea was just so people could have 'the real deal' cd or cassette or whatever it may from the artist in its original form.

Maybe i'd have to think about making it a members club kind of thing for security reasons, but yet again i am not pc literate which is why i need help.

All suggestions are welcome though, id rather take time and do it rite than do a half assed job of it.

Thanks for your time.

also just on the mail note, surely it cant be that hard to put a cd or whatever in an envelope and a stamp, put in a box. Its not like you'd you'd get nothing for it hence 'exchange' of demos....
