Attention all would-be band managers….do you have the right stuff?
Posted: Thu May 19, 2005 1:28 pm
We’re on the lookout for a dynamic person with a sense of humour to give us a hand. Think of yourself as the 4th member of our band who helps out with gigs, advertising, recording and distribution…if the band does it then you do it too!

We’ll take enthusiasm over experience. If you’ve ever wanted to be involved in the music industry but can’t play for shit then this could be a good start. Any age, any sex, any ethnicity/religion…we’re easy (the rumours are true).

If you interested then flick a quick email to [email protected] telling us a bit about yourself….lie if you want to.

Yes, you'd definitely have to be in Auckland or within commuting distance. Sorry for not mentioning that earlier.

Our co-manager has been in aussie for the last 5 months - its handy having a co-manager in another place

That's not a bad idea but we don't have a manager at all at the moment. As we get more demand for gigs we're finding it increasingly more difficult to focus on the creative side (what we want to do) as opposed to the business side (the neccessary evil).

There's no question that we could keep doing the whole thing and do it well but we need someone to give us a hand e.g. turn up to gigs with us to act as mediator between us and venue owners/sound engineers, help with distributing marketing material, negotiate sponsorship and other deals.

We have a few people in mind at the moment but we'd like to get a few more applicants before we make a final decision.

How could any "all originals" band in NZ afford to pay a manager?

We are all original. We'll just split the profits like we have since day one.

Usually a manager for an originals band in NZ would have to have a vested interest in the bands success - our co-manager has a true love of new zealand music, and wants to associate her name with a band that she believes will "make it".

Other than that, all you can really do to pay a manager for an NZ band is do a percentage cut on any money that is made by the band - through CD sales, or ticket sales for gigs.

In most cases, the first scenario applies.
