Date: Saturday 8th October Time: 5pm to 8pm Sponsors and their families will be taken on a 'trek' around the Zoo. At each area they will have nibbles & drinks and at 3 - 4 areas they would like some entertainment. People will be mingling and chatting in each area as opposed to watching a 'performance'. Your performance will need to work unamplified or you will need to provide your own amplification (cost of you providing this is included in your fee) - any amplification used should be minimal. Setups need to be simple. The stops are: Lion Shelter 10 -15mins - african music? Sealion Shores 10 - 15mins - maybe harp, watery theme! Primate Trail Lemurs 10 - 15mins - What about something either Indonesian or Carribean style (Just Juice sponsor that area) Rainforest 30 - 40mins - South American Rainforest setting, something acoustic brazillian theme (no drums) Budget $150 - short stops And $300 - $400 longer stop? Also, any African style musicians/groups out there should get in touch with them as they are looking to be doing an African event early next year. Performers (and support) Wanted for Fundraising Concert Date: Sunday September 4th Time: 4:30pm to 6:30pm Venue: The Dogs Bollix, 582B Karangahape Road, Auckland This gig is aiming to raise funds to advertise the RAM Free Buses petition, currently under discussion with the Auckland Regional and City Councils. In a nutshell, RAM are trying to get a trial of several city wide free bus services, in an attempt to improve public transport and therefore ease congestion. The 2nd Going West Poetry Slam Venue: The Titirangi Memorial Hall Saturday Date: Saturday the 3rd of September Start: 7pm Price: $5 entry. Registrations on the night from 6.30pm 1st Prize: $500 cash 2nd Prize: $300 cash 3rd Prize: $150 cash There will also be prizes for the best this and that. Rules for the Going West Poetry Slam: - All poems must be original. - Poems to be 3 minutes or less (One piece of advice is, know how long your work is.) - Time starts when person speaks (including introduction, preamble etc.) - No music, no singing and no props. - Time keeper to ring bell when time is up. - After 3 minutes bell keeps ringing. - Entrants need to be prepared to perform up to 3 pieces: - 1st for the first round - 2nd for the finals - 3rd in case of a tie (there will be a final slam) Registration is open to all on the night but numbers are limited. Catch Kapiti is the umbrella for all the summer events happening on the 'Coast. Free 'Using Technology in Music' Workshops (Ak, Wgtn, Chch) The Electric Factory is presenting a series of free nationwide workshops looking at using the latest technologies in music creation and performance. The aim of the workshops is to bridge the gap between technology and musicians. They have brought together industry professionals and performing musicians to discuss and further attendees' knowledge of music technology. Paddy Free fromPitch Black talks about using technology in music performance and production. Junny Remotigue from M-Audio, Macau demonstrates the latest in music creation and performance technology. Auckland singing workshop for singers showing aptitude Location: The Performing Arts School of NZ Dates: 4 days: 24 and 25 September 1 and 2 October THE PROGRAMME This workshop is a rare and exciting opportunity for singers with aptitude to train under the guidance of three of New Zealand's most experienced musical theatre experts, Penny Dodd - renowned musical director and arranger, Jennifer Ward-Lealand - actor, singer and director and Louise Britzman - singer and vocal coach. It is a four-day intensive course that will enable each student to take one solo piece and two chorus numbers from scratch to performance. Louise Britzman will provide each singer with a thorough technical grounding and provide coaching so that they can confidently perform a solo musical theatre piece in a "Star-Turn" style public performance on the Final Sunday of the workshop. These solo pieces will be rehearsed further with Penny Dodd who will accompany on piano. Penny will offer her experience as casting/musical director for numerous professional productions sharing tips on how to present an auditions song. Penny will also work up two chorus numbers with the whole group for the performance. Jennifer Ward-Lealand will ensure each singer is equipped with sufficient performance skill, characterization and performance style to bring the solo and chorus items onto the TAPAC stage for an audience.
