Parachute Festival On The Way!
Posted: Tue Nov 26, 2002 5:23 pm
The largest Christian Music Festival in Australasia anticipates a record 23,000 people in attendance at the Parachute 03 music festival held over Auckland Anniversary weekend at Totara Springs, Matamata 24 - 27 January 2003.

Parachute 2003 will host 12 international acts with artists from USA, UK, South Africa, and Australia, there are also more than 100 New Zealand bands also performing over the three-day weekend. A drug and alcohol-free music festival Parachute 03 also features top international and national seminar speakers, and a variety of sports, music and children's programs in a safe family environment.

Director of Parachute 03, Mark Mortlock says Parachute 03 is looking to be the biggest festival held yet with six stages running (busy with bands) all weekend reflecting the number of artists performing and the number of people expected.

"As Parachute continues to produce outstanding music line-ups, we see enthusiasm for the Festival spread throughout the country. It's exciting to see keen interest and support increase, for not only international artists, but also for our own NZ Christian music scene," Mortlock said.

Headlining the international acts are USA's 'TobyMac' and 'Out of Eden.' Of the leading NZ bands are, 'Wash' recently signed to American record label, Hydrogen and Auckland's hottest new rock band, 'Detour,' signed to Parachute Records.

TobyMac - USA
Virginia-based, TobyMac blends HipHop, Rap, Rock and R&B. He is the founder of Gotee Records, has won five Dove awards and the BMI Songwriting Award in June 2002. With widespread touring, TobyMac is bringing a group of twelve with him to Parachute 03, including a full band, back-up singers and a DJ.

Out of Eden - USA
With smooth sounds of R&B, HipHop, Pop and Soul, Out Of Eden have appeared on movies, TV shows and been nominated for seven Dove awards. They have produced two #1 Hits, fifteen Top 10 Hits (13 consecutively), recorded four albums, of which over one million copies have been sold.

Wash - Tauranga
Four-piece hard rock band, Wash has recently signed to Hydrogen records from New York. Their debut album is being completed with producer Darren Poole, of Massive Artists Recordings. Wash already has an avid following, generated by extensive touring and airplay over the past two years.

Detour - Auckland
Auckland's newest guitar-driven five-piece rock band is charged with emotion, their songs in the vein of Incubus, Life House and GooGoo Dolls. Detour signed to Parachute Records in September this year and is set to release their self titled debut album at Parachute 03, which includes the single She Walked In. NZ on Air funded the music video and recording of the single, which also features on the NZ on Air Hit Disc.
