Kickstart Detonator Compilation Album Posted: Mon Dec 12, 2005 6:59 pm Kickstart Records is ridiculously proud to announce the release of their very first compilation album … Kickstart Detonator. Boasting 15 tracks of punk, rock and hardcore, Detonator exposes some great kiwi music sourced from all over Aotearoa NZ. Kickstart Records was founded in 2004 with the express purpose of working alongside emerging kiwi artists. Kickstart co-founder Dave Cullen says, “Our aim is to give up-and-coming bands a kick-start, a leg up, a hefty shove in the right direction. We figure a compilation like Detonator is a good way to achieve this, and we couldn’t have done it without the generous support of our sponsors.” Detonator uses a ‘role modelling’ approach by placing established kiwi artists alongside newer acts. For example, the compilation includes tracks from seasoned bands like eight, WASH and Mozelee, who have achieved a level of success in the NZ music industry. Some of the newer, emerging Detonator artists include World Battle of the Bands 2005 NZ Finalist, gorgeous all-girl punksters, Assorted Sweets; Radiator, whose funk rock single ‘Freedom’ was produced by Captain Hook of 48May; and Do or Die, who came first-equal at the Primal 05 Battle of the Bands and used their recording prize to lend their debut single ‘Frustration Separation’ to the compilation. Other bands on Detonator are: Zebulun from West Auckland; South Auckland’s Mumsdollar; Fly By Wire and One Must Fall from Hamilton; Auckland Central duo Season Pass; Wellington bands Moped and Housebound; Ubiquitous from the North Shore; and Christchurch party-band 4ManBob. Detonator release gigs will be held in Auckland, Wellington, Hamilton and Christchurch featuring bands that appear on the album. Check gig guides for details of the remaining Detonator release gigs during December and January. Kickstart Detonator will be available for sale at the release gigs and through NZ music retailers from December 2005. |
