A Singer Songwriter music showcase aimed at fostering Wairarapa music industry is about to take off at Stellar Bar & Restaurant in Masterton the Wairarapa’s leading nightclub venue.

The event is being formally launched at 7pm on Thursday 2nd February, 2006 and is supported by Trust House the regions major trust funding body.

Singer Songwriter Nights is not-for-profit joint venture between Wairarapa based charities Music Wairarapa incorporated and Trust House. Stellar Bar & Restaurant aims to become part of the growing national network of Singer Songwriter Nights.

Music Wairarapa Incorporated Chairman Glyn MacLean quotes:

"One of the aims of Music Wairarapa Incorporated is to establish reciprocal performance links with other cities and regions.

"We hope to create an environment in which emerging NZ songwriting talent can develop and flourish.

"A real potential exists to empower musicians to export their NZ music to the world and so the Wairarapa event will be run in conjunction with an export focussed web site.

"All money received from the venue goes to the artists who perform. The event is designed to be fast paced, provide opportunities for A & R and be high quality and entertaining."

The Wairarapa Singer Songwriter Nights are modelled off the world famous Singer Songwriter and Open Mic Nights at Nashville’s “Bluebird Café” and New York’s “Bitter End” where artists like Simon & Garfunkel, Billy Joel and Elton John were first “discovered”.

Each month an out of region Singer Songwriter will be featured (and obviously paid). NZ Singer Songwriters can register for the event online.
