As a direct result of the World Series held in Auckland last November, Trade New Zealand and the New Zealand Music Industry Commission have been invited to organise a Kiwi Music Day at this year’s SummerStage festival, performance date to be 13 July.

Central Park SummerStage is New York's premier free performing arts festival. In 2000, SummerStage presented 36 free events featuring nearly 100 artists. Season attendance averages 450,000, and the festival has drawn roughly 4.5 million spectators since its inception.

Building on the success of the World Series and subsequent events, the key objectives for this trade promotion project are:

- Promote NZ music internationally
- Promote committed and capable NZ artists in North America
- Deepen our international networks of contacts through leveraging existing relationships
- Promote New Zealand

A publicity program is being planned to coincide with the festival, and the possibility of hosting industry showcases in NY and LA is being considered.

We are calling for expressions of interest from those committed and capable artists/companies who wish to be considered for the SummerStage performance. We are also interested to hear from any artists who may be in the region at the time of the festival.

Details in brief:

- All participants must be NZ based GST registered companies, committed to returning earnings to NZ
- The costs of participation in the event and any associated promotion and marketing activities will likely be covered by the various contributing government and industry organizations
- All other costs including travel and accommodation to and from the market will be the responsibility of the artists/companies
- Invitations will be issued to four artists to perform over a period of about four hours
- Preference may be given to artists who have broader appeal and, given the festival environment, and who potentially have some traction in the market
- Final artist selection will be made by the festival organisers and in market advisers
- Expressions of interest must be receive by no later than 12 noon Monday 28th April and must be submitted by email with full contact details to:

Final selection of artists will be made by the end of April and agreements will be signed immediately after.
