Unsigned Kiwi Band To Play International Festival Posted: Sat May 17, 2003 11:03 am A relatively unknown Auckland rock band has scored an international gig playing along side some of the biggest rock names in the world on August 9. Scruffy's Little Counterpart has been asked to perform at an international festival in Malaysia alongside acts like the Foo Fighters, The Stone Temple Pilots and Audioslave. The band, which has been in existance since December, is going to perform for over an hour on the main stage in front of a crowd of about 25,000. Scruffy's Little Counterpart, is made up of Steve Sheath on lead vocals/guitar, Grant Daish on drums, Dale Smith on vocals/guitar and Piripi Silich on bass/vocals. Grant says the invitation to the gig of a lifetime came 'completely out of left-field' from a musician friend who is organising the festival. And like any kiwi band taking on the world, they are rising to the challenge. The festival, called Outdoors, will take place in the Genting Highlands, an hour outside Kuala Lumpar, on August 9. It is the first time the festival has been held, and will feature rock, elecronica, breakbeat and drum and bass acts from around the world. The Auckland band are hoping this exposure will lead to more gigs overseas and they will be aiming for an international record label. |
