MySpace Seminar at Our Place Posted: Fri Jun 30, 2006 8:32 am The NZ Music Industry Commission is pleased to host a seminar that will shed some light on the music-related aspects of MySpace.com. Berkeley University’s Danah Boyd will share her insights in a discussion with Aaron Dustin to be held at the NZMIC offices on Monday July 3rd. Many NZ artists are well-versed in creating accounts and loading content and information about their music onto MySpace, but are there things they could do more effectively? A better understanding of MySpace may assist artists with using this promotional tool to its fullest potential. Danah Boyd has been described by Russell Brown as “probably the leading social commentator at present on MySpace and related phenomena”, while Aaron Dustin was one of the founders of www.nzmusic.com. Together they will discuss how the music industry can tap into an online community for better or worse, look at the reality of the success stories, and explore the direction in which current trends are likely to take MySpace. MySpace is the world's fourth most popular English-language website and the fifth most popular in the world, with more than 88 million registered accounts. Acquired by News Corporation earlier this year, the social-networking site is now an established advertising and marketing medium for music, and is credited with playing a big part in the rise of My Chemical Romance and Arctic Monkeys. This seminar will be ideal for musicians, managers, and music-related companies that are looking to make the most of their online exposure. As places are limited please RSVP to [email protected] as soon as possible – seats will be allocated on a first-in first-served basis. MySpace at Our Place - Monday July 3rd NZMIC Offices from 5.30pm (seminar starts 6 sharp) |
