Music and MySpace at the National Library Posted: Wed Apr 30, 2008 5:04 pm Want to ensure your music will be heard by your grandkids, and their kids … forever? Keen to have the sounds you love looked after and stored properly? Enthusiastic about raising your profile in the New Zealand music scene? Then you need to know about Be Heard. Forever, the National Library of New Zealand’s ongoing campaign to raise awareness of what it can offer New Zealand artists, researchers and music lovers. Two copies of all CDs, DVDs, vinyl, cassettes, videos, and digitally born music published in New Zealand must by law be deposited at the National Library. When music arrives at the Library, expert music librarians catalogue and list it in the National Bibliography, a database of New Zealand published material. Libraries and other purchasers look to the Bibliography before buying musical material. The Bibliography already boasts 16,103 sound recordings! Archiving music with the National Library also means it will be immortalised. In the future, when formats such as CDs or DVDs become obsolete, the National Library's digital archiving capabilities will mean music in its collections could be accessed regardless of its original physical format. You can learn more about Be Heard. Forever by contacting [email protected] - or, visit our MySpace page http://www.myspace.com/beheardforever (our friends include Steriogram, Pluto, Evermore, Elemeno P, 48 May, 8 Foot Sativa, the Mint Chicks, Deja Voodoo, Goldenhorse and The Shades). Visit http://www.myspace.com/beheardforever to learn how to get your music into the National Bibliography. It will connect you with other New Zealand artists and direct you to the National Library’s musical resources. The National Library is dedicated to preserving your talent for generations to come. So get on board and be heard. Forever. |
