National Secondary Schools Songwriting Competition. Funded by the Scottwood Trust.

Awards
There are thirty awards in total:

- 1st place receives the Play It Strange trophy and a music publishing contract. This includes support in securing a place in songwriting workshops overseas.

- 1st to 10th placegetters receive a musical instrument with a retail value of up to $1,000.

- 1st twenty placegetters are included on the 'Play It Strange' CD released nationally.

- 1st thirty placegetters receive one day's recording in a professional studio.

Supplementary Awards
The HOD of Music at the schools from which the first three placegetters are drawn are able to take a group of students from that school to witness a recording session by a professional artist. Play It Strange will host the visit and provide an educational overview.
