July 21st- 24th
Brought to you by Radio One and Cosmic Corner

Got a Onecard? Then you’ve automatically got VIP entry to Radio One’s exclusive four-day party, and it’s going to be GIGANTIC!!! From Wednesday July 21st to Saturday 24th you’ll be treated to some of the freshest musical talent Aotearoa has to offer.

Radio One is proud, chuffed and ecstatic to host Sola Rosa, The Coolies, Open Souls, Conray, David Mitchell, Andy Flyboy, Manuel Bundy, Downtown Brown, John White, The Irie Eyes, Dick The Phone, DJs Buttafingas, Ota, Paunch and Chip, Fracture and Eastablists.

You’ve probably already heard plenty of top tunes from these fine acts, but it’s about time you were treated to their electric live exploits. Check ‘em out over the 4 nights of Onefest in our favourite Dunedin venues - The Crown, Refuel, Bath St and Arc Café.

Onecard holders get FREE entry to all these stunning events, so if you’ve not got a Onecard get one fast! The 2004 Onecards are still available to buy from the Radio One office, 640 Cumberland St, Level One, but they WILL sell out – don’t you dare doubt us! There will be limited door sales on the nights if you’re silly enough to go uncarded.

The Coolies - Wednesday 21st at the Crown

Auckland rascals The Coolies are finally making their way down Dunedin way to captivate and boisterously tickle your aural organs.
The Coolies knocked the socks off the Yanks when they took their electro-rock spectacular over to Austin, Texas for SXSW earlier this year, and following a brief stint at home they’ll be state bound again. Don’t miss these hellcats for a night of DIY decadence and dance demagoguery! Tina, Sjionel and Fiona promise to be trouble, and have the mischievous and cheeky Andy Flyboy back in town and Dunedin’s glam matadors Dick the Phone along for the ride.

OPEN SOULS – Thursday 22nd at Refuel

A seven-piece hip hop crew from Auckland, New Zealand, the Open Souls are enduring favourites at Radio 1. In fact, if we ever took them off the playlist the locals would be up here with pitchforks and torches before you could say “accountability”. This collective includes members of heavyweights Verse Two, The Insomniacs, Che Fu & The Krates, New Loungehead, 5th Floor, Relaxomatic Project, Otatahi Allstars and Solaa, all combining to create a fusion of hip organic jazzy hop. For one night only, Dunedin audiences will also be treated to a four- for-four set by Open Souls DJs Buttafingers, Ota, Paunch and Chip. The Irie Eyes and Eastablists make up the full complement for another memorable Refuel experience. Wucked!

Sola Rosa – Friday 23rd at Bath St

When it comes to electronica, Andrew Spraggon (that’s Sola Rosa to you) is the suavest in the business of suave. On his 2004 Australasian tour he will set-up office for Onefest at his southern headquarters, the world-renowned Bath St. Prepare for a night chock full of sublime velvety grooves, featuring highlights from Sola Rosa’s seminal downbeat success, “Haunted Out-Takes”. Flying in to round out this debonair line-up are Mr Spraggon’s very special guests Manuel Bundy, Subculture’s Downtown Brown and Dunedin’s Fracture.

David Mitchell and friends - Saturday 24th at Arc

David Mitchell has been melting down guitar amps since the early 80’s in seminal New Zealand bands the 3Ds, Goblin Mix and Plagal Grind. He’s been on the other side of the world for 7 years playing in his London bands the Ghost Club and the Mean Streaks, so we are fizzing to have him at Onefest to blow our tiny mid-winter-cabin-fevered minds with his extreme guitar mess.

The 24th is also Dunedin’s first chance to experience Conray, the live solo project of Dale Cotton – producer to the stars! Perhaps best known for his producing/engineering work with HDU, Dimmer, Cloudboy and Sola Rosa, Dale is a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and songwriter who released his solo debut album “Mefasolate” (think ‘do re me’) late last year. With a little help from special guest associate Simon McLaren (who you may very well know from the Sleepers Union and, back in the day, Loves Ugly Children), Conray will beautifully blur the boundaries between electronica and pop.

The third act in this night of un-missable eclecticism is Dunedin’s golden son, John White. On a quest to find the simplest song in the universe, John White has been singing and strumming his way into international obscurity, and will be for years to come. He’s delighted audiences both local and overseas with bands like Mestar, the Zoo Polluters and Cloudboy; but this time it’s just him, Alan Starrett, and Wellington cellist Francesca Mountfort. Expect to hear lots of new songs as well as your favourites from the current solo outing, "Balloon Adventure", and who knows you may even be treated to a tune or two from Mestar’s back catalogue – but we ain’t promising!
