Mega Metal Man Has Heart Of Gold
Posted: Sun Nov 1, 2009 11:49 am
That's the view of Nick Douch, co-organiser of the Fill The House Tickets Project after he met up with Megadeth front man Dave Mustaine before he took the stage at Auckland's Logan Campbell Centre earlier this month.

The Fill The House Tickets Project organises tickets to shows for Child Cancer Foundation families to give them some welcome time out from the stresses and strains of dealing with a child with cancer.

Nick who is drummer for local band Eqwanox (who help brand and profile the Child Cancer Foundation with a direct link to the CCF website from the bands myspace page and with shout outs at their live gigs), and who is studying towards a Music Degree at Wintec in Hamilton, said of the meet - " Dave was really laid back and mellow and fully supportive of the work the project undertakes. He was like a meek and mild Clark Kent really, but man when he took the stage it was like he had gone into a telephone box and come out transformed into Superman. His on stage performance was electric and he had the crowd rocking from start to finish and crying out for more.

We deal with families with children at all stages of the journey with cancer, from diagnosis to treatment to remission, and, even in the saddest of times when they have lost a child. It's great to be able to send folks to the calibre of shows that bands such as Megadeth put on because it gives them a buzz and lifts their spirits and gives them some positive memories to help them through the tough times.

There is no line drawn in the sand as to which children get cancer and it's really encouraging to see Mr. Mustaine supporting our work given that a percentage of families in our network are hard out heavy metal music fans."
There's no word yet on whether Megadeth are planning a return visit but given that the concert sold out well ahead of show-day there's no doubt it's being considered!

Nick is currently in discussion with both the Axe Attack and Juice TV with a view to each auctioning a signed poster of Megadeth to raise funds for the Child Cancer Foundation
