Mataura Licensing Trust Songwriting Awards and Seminar

The aim of the Mataura Licensing Trust is to give songwriters access to information about songwriting and the encouragement to hone their skills.

The Songwriting Seminar will be held @ Heartland Hotel (Croydon Lodge), Main Queenstown Highway, Gore on Thursday 3 June 2010 from 9am to 2:30pm.

In attendance:
Experienced NZ songwriters:

- who will share their knowledge of the craft of songwriting
- Presentations may include performances, writing songs and practical songwriting ideas

Songwriting industry representatives, who will explore such issues as:
- Copyright of new material
- Royalties
- The recording industry
- Opportunities for getting new material heard

The seminar is an opportunity of a life time for all budding songwriters, a chance not to be missed!

The seminar brings to you a wealth of NZ music industry talent all focused on sharing their craft and talent with you.

Arthur Baysting of APRA and Project Director with the NZ Music Commission, recognises that "The MLT Songwriting Seminar plays a crucial role in providing fundamental advice and instruction in songwriting development."

Past guests include Mike Chunn, Wayne Mason, Shona Laing, Mahinarangi Tocker, Don McGlashan plus representatives from APRA, RIANZ and Creative NZ.

Registrations cost $30 per person and must be sent by 22 May 2010.


The NZ Songwriters Trust Awards will be held @ Longford Function Centre, Gore on Thursday 3 June 2010 from 8pm.

Prizes:
- Winner: $2500
- Runner Up: $500

Winners will be determined by some of the best in the NZ music industry.

The MLT Songwriting Awards is a night of outstanding musical talent showcased in Gore, in front of some of the top music industry professionals.

Songwriters from all over New Zealand, Australia and the US enter their songs in this well established music industry event. Open to all songwriters - music and lyrics of all entries must be deemed original by the judges and all songs must not be commercially released prior to judging.

Judged by a panel of four accomplished music industry representatives, 10 finalists are selected and these songs are performed live at the awards evening.

This event has been the catalyst in igniting many songwriting careers.

Entries cost $15 (incl GST) per person and must be sent by 12 March 2010. A condition of entry is that all finalists must be prepared to attend the award finals on 3 June 2010.
