Eden Mulholland Releases ‘Music For Dance’ album on Monday 22 March Posted: Mon Mar 8, 2010 4:57 pm Recognised predominantly in music circles as the singer and song writer for Auckland pop group Motocade, Eden Mulholland is set to release Music For Dance - the first in a series of albums showcasing music Eden has written for various Dance and Theatre events since 2000. This first album is dedicated to the music from shows choreographed by Malia Johnston, a long-time collaborator and close friend of Eden's. Eden's compositional work is critically acclaimed for both its diversity and interpretive depths. His modus operandi is to write music that most dynamically expresses, for each choreography, the richly layered worlds of human emotion and human movement. Each singular music narrative he creates allows for dramatic and imaginative explorations of space, time and feeling. In part the freshness and inventiveness of Eden's approach is due to his eclectic background in music. Without formal music training, Eden has developed his music in a less conventional manner. He has an experimental, unencumbered approach to composition - the results of which are often challenging and dramatically charged. After graduating in 1998 from Unitec in Auckland with a Diploma of Contemporary Dance, Eden Mulholland danced professionally in NZ and abroad for choreographers such as Ann Dewey, Touch Compass, Black Grace, Michael Parmenter, Sean Curham and Malia Johnston. He has continually written music for colleagues in the dance and theatre industry, including some of New Zealand's top choreographers such as Michael Parmenter, Malia Johnston, Okareka Dance, Atamira, Footnote Dance and Claire O’Neil.
