The Lucks get a jolly good rogering
Posted: Mon May 23, 2005 6:53 pm
Young, hip and described by NME magazine as "f*cking perfect", New York trio the Roger Sisters make their Wellington debut with Lady Luck and Conan and the Moccasins this Thursday night.

Think the B-52s meets the Slits with a twist of serious attitude and you'd be on track to the Rogers Sisters sound. The Sisters are three foxy young New Yorkers who play snotty pretty-punk sounding garagey retro-rock music with growlin' vocals and killer live show.

The Rogers' have a rep for playing at the hippest NYC parties, have opened Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Liars, the Kills and the Fall to name just a few. But whether you think they're hip or not – the Roger's can make even the coolest cats break into a dancing fool. (Word on the street is that Roger's frontman is renown for unleashing an explosive flurry on stage – ooh baby!)

Team that with Lady Luck's frontwoman who rocks out like a monkey on the P, and it seems like Mystery Girl has put together one hellava show.

Lady Luck's rock tunes with playful disco back-beat's, sexual bass riffs and plug-in alter-awesome-ego's rock tunes have had audience members getting hot, sweaty and slightly uncomfortable all at the same time. Their latest demo track, titled 'Disco Disco' about well dressed indie boys made it to the top spot in the b-net national chart last week.

Sandwiched in between Lady Luck and the Roger Sisters are much adored local psychedelic trio, Conan and the Moccasins. Frontman Conan Hosford literally wears moccasins and the attraction doesn't just stop there. The trio continue to woo audiences across the country with their cutsie-pie cheeky, 60's pop-rock songs about naughty summer holidays and Conan's reputation for being one of the best live guitarists in the country.

And for that special something extra after the show, Peter Peach Productions are debuting Welli's new monthly indie clubnight, Artschool on the very same night. DJ Andrew Geekboy (Cheese on Toast / Kiss & Make-up Club regular DJ ) will make his Welli debut after midnight, spinning indie dance hits from Bloc Party, Bravery, Interpol, Franz, Smiths, Cure, Ramones, Blondie and Soft Cell, and much, much more. Expect to party till the wee hours at Good Luck on Cuba on Thursday night.
