Tall Dwarfs to tour America Posted: Mon Jun 13, 2005 9:10 pm It’s true! Tall Dwarfs are to return to the USA this year to tour with their pals Olivia Tremor Control, by special request. This is nothing short of a seismic event for die-hard U.S. independent music fans. Not only that, the stateside record label Cloud Recordings will domestically re-release Tall Dwarfs’ ‘Weeville’ and ‘Fork Songs’ albums to celebrate!! The ‘Weeville’ album was previously released by the now-defunct Homestead label, and the ‘Fork Songs’ album has never been issued by a U.S. label before. Tall Dwarfs last visited the United States back in 1992 – thirteen years ago - and left behind many a long-lasting fan of the performing duo. The group have continually been credited as musical pioneers and major influences on the underground music scene for years after the act's early-‘80s inception. Olivia Tremor Control are very much on that team. Here’s the finalised dates, including a quick-stop at Auckland’s Kings Arms Tavern for a warm-up show (first time live in Auckland since 2002). Tall Dwarfs All USA shows are with Olivia Tremor Control except as noted: JULY Tues 26th - Auckland, Kings Arms [ support TBA ] Fri 29th - Chicago, Subterranean Sat 30th - Chicago, Wicker Park Festival AUGUST Tue 2nd - New York, Bowery Ballroom Wed 3rd - New York, Bowery Ballroom Thu 4th - Local 506, Chapel Hill, NC (Tall Dwarfs only) Sun 7th - Orange Twin, Athens, GA Tue 9th - Bottom of the Hill, San Francisco, CA What the press has said about Tall Dwarfs: “In their own humble way, the Dwarfs have infected every unsuspecting mind that unwittingly or otherwise touched their music”--Real Groove (NZ) “Chris Knox is the godfather of the New Zealand alternative-music scene - if Iggy Pop, Joan Jett, Robyn Hitchcock and Lou Reed were all the same person, that's how important he is to Kiwi pop... It also doesn't hurt that he's a first-rate songwriter.”--Trouser Press (USA) “Twenty-plus years into their career, the Tall Dwarfs' appeal remains obvious: although the rise of cheap digital recording technology has advanced their production techniques, their music has a "seat of the pants" edginess that implies a musical Iron Chef aesthetic.” – Splendid Magazine (USA) “Les Néo-Zélandais de Tall Dwarfs sont considérés comme les pionniers du mouvement lo-fi dans leur pays.” -- XSILENCE (France) “Like a couple of master craftsmen, the duo work away on their handmade sounds with their trusty old tools (and some newer, digital ones, of course) to produce records that, while not fashionable, certainly never go out of style.” – Dusted Magazine (USA) http://www.flyingnun.co.nz/ |
